Dear 2017 Big Sur Marathon Weekend Entrant,
Only five weeks to go before your Big Sur experience! We're excited about welcoming you to the Monterey-Carmel-Big Sur area. Here are a few things you might want to know:

You may have seen photos from the dramatic demolition of the Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge. This span now separates much of Big Sur from the north and is a significant hardship on the residents and businesses  located to the south. We have started a fund-raising campaign to provide support to the Big Sur Relief Fund. Click HERE to donate or learn more.

The affected bridge lies to the south of our start line and does not affect our marathon course. However, we must alter  our marathon runner drop-off area. The marathon buses that travel south from the Monterey Peninsula will turn around at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. Runners then have a pre-race warm-up walk of about a half mile to the marathon start area where coffee, porta-potties and gear-check will be available. Here is a press release on the current situation.

For those runners staying in Big Sur, the regular shuttle loop will continue. Runners from the few hotels and campgrounds located between the River Inn and Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park will be picked up and transported to the drop-off area at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. Be sure to stand out front of your lodging to be visible for pick-up.

Finally, for ALL weekend race participants, we encourage you to drive south on the days before or after your race event to view the course and patronize the restaurants and shops that are open.

Whether you are a novice or veteran runner, completing a marathon can be a daunting venture. The  Clif Pace Team is an experienced community of pace leaders who help all levels of runners reach their goal. The pace leaders act as a friend, coach, and mentor throughout your race.  Be sure to stop by the Clif Pace Team booth at the Expo to meet the leaders.

Most of our distance events are sold out but we still have entry slots for our 12K and 5K races! Both events showcase beautiful ocean views and the 12K is our only event that offers an amazing tour through Point Lobos State Natural Reserve. You can register online HERE through April 21 or race weekend at the Expo if not sold out.

Bib numbers will be assigned and information for personalized bibs sent to the printer next week based on the information you provided during registration ( name, gender, age, shirt size). If you have corrections, please email by March 31. Note that if Big Sur is your debut marathon, your name will be printed in red so all can recognize your accomplishment! Our timing company, SVE Timing, will send you an email or text with your bib number about a week before the race.

Race Weekend Instructions will be emailed to all participants and posted online at  about three weeks before the race. These will contain an updated schedule of events, course, venue, and expo maps and bus pick-up locations.

Best of luck in your training for Big Sur. We'll be back in touch with you in a few weeks!
The Big Sur Marathon Team
