2017 Candadian Team Master's Championships

Randall Town, Bruce Matthews, Mark O'Neill, Tom Bedore, Laura Ramsay, Deidre Smith, and team captain, Brook Parkin, arrived at the Edmonton Squash Club January 13th to compete against seven other Canadian teams in the 2017 Canadian Masters Team Championship.

A total of 56 athletes in divisions 40+,45+, 50+ and 55+ played in over 100 matches by the end of the event.

The championship kicked off with round-robin play. Team BC finished 2nd to Team Alberta in their pool. Semi-final action had Team BC with a tough match up against top seeded Team Ontario, yet they still won 2 matches and a third match went to a close fifth game. In playoff action, Team BC paired off against Team Manitoba. Team BC had to dig deep to overcome some tough rallys and an injury yet Team BC solidified their win with 4 matches to secure the Bronze medal.

Squash BC is very proud of their accomplishment. We would like to acknowledge Team BC as they demonstrated their tenacity and passion for the sport.

 "Participaction"150 Play list/Challenge

SQUASH INCLUDED IN PARTICIPACTION'S 150 PLAY LIST In celebration of Canada's 150th birthday, ParticipACTION has announced the final list of activities included in the 150 Play List.
Squash Canada is thrilled to confirm that squash has been named to the ParticipACTION 150 Play List.  ParticipACTION's 150 Play List is the ultimate list of 150 physical activities that define us as Canadian.  Announced last week, the 150 Play List encourages everyone to move more and move often, and what better way to do that then to play the healthiest sport in the world, SQUASH!

The 150 Play List is a national program designed to encourage all Canadians to be physically active. Throughout 2017, every Canadian from coast to coast to coast will be challenged to complete as many physical activities on the list as possible.  As Canadians "get active" in each of these activities over the course of the year they can track their progress on a dedicated website, earn rewards and be entered for a chance to win weekly and monthly prizes.

The list was created based on over 465,000 votes received from people across the country, along with expert input from members of an advisory committee, who helped ensure the list reflected the diversity of Canada.

Over the coming months, Squash Canada will finalize activities, events and special promotions to celebrate both Canada and the sport of squash.  Initiatives will be designed to make it easy for Canadians to discover the energy and excitement of squash!  Squash Canada and its Provincial/Territorial Associations will work with member clubs across the country to organize events and activities that promote the ParticipACTION 150 Play List as we encourage Canadians to hit the courts and try squash.

The first confirmed special squash event for the year will be an official 150 Play List Tour Stop at the 2017 Canadian Squash Championships.  The ParticipACTION 150 Play List Crew has 100 tour stops planned across Canada, and squash will be a featured event!

Learn all about the 150 Play List tour and search an interactive map to find other tour stops and local community events near you by visiting www.participaction.com/150.
Have you started tracking your activities yet? If you have not done so, create an account here and start tracking as many activities as you can....and why not start with squash!!  And when you check squash off your 150 Play List, let us know! Use the hashtag #150PlayList and tag @SquashCanada on Twitter.

ABOUT THE PARTICIPACTION 150 PLAY LIST To celebrate Canada's 150th birthday, ParticipACTION created the ParticipACTION 150 Play List

We did it! Squash has been included on ParticipACTION's 150 Play List!
With help from ParticipACTION's media partners like CORUS Entertainment and SHAW, throughout 2017 Canadians will be encouraged to complete all 150 activities/sports on the Play List including squash.

Stay tuned over the coming months as we announce special activities and promotions to highlight squash's inclusion on the 150 Play List, including ways in which P/Ts, local clubs and squash players can get involved!

Attached is the press release confirming squash's inclusion.  Please feel free to share with your networks.
