Some People Just Don't Get it!

Joy Becker says that "Pastor Jenn's sermon on September 23 really touched my heart" and hopefully many of yours.

We are all so reluctant to share with others our thoughts, beliefs, talents and the story of Jesus Christ and what He did for us. Her sermon was titled, "Some People Just Don't Get It." She spoke of how the disciples "just did not get it" when Jesus told them that he was going to die-for them-so that they could have peace and everlasting life. They doubted that he could feed 4,000 people with 7 loaves of bread and a few small fishes, after he had just fed 5,000 people with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fishes! He asked His disciples to believe in what he was telling them and to share His good news. We all still struggle with this. But, thankfully, we here at Grace are given so many opportunities to do this.

Coming up in October are many opportunities to share God's love with others. I challenge you to try something new and invite guests to come join you in our many activities. October 14, after 2nd service, is our memorable Oktoberfest Celebration. Buddy and Adele Dewar have ordered over 200 authentic German sausage dogs of various types for us and our invited friends to partake in. All you need to do is bring the side dishes so we have a great feast to be enjoyed by many! Please feel free to invite that friend who you have always wanted to invite, because we will have PLENTY to share. I am sure the 5,000 mentioned in Mark would have much preferred a feast at Grace!

Our newest activity, the Fall Festival, is being held on October 27 from 5-7 pm. This event is sponsored by our Youth Committee as a community outreach opportunity. We plan to have "jumpy houses", games and "Trunk-or-Treat" (trick-or-treating by going from car to car in the parking lot), as well as snacks and prizes for kids of all ages.  We are still looking for volunteers to assist, but we also need you to spread the word about this event.  It should be great fun, but also be a way for Grace to reach out to our local community.

If you have never volunteered at Manna on Meridian or Harbor Chase, try it. Both of these are very rewarding experiences and a way for you to feel God's love and blessings in your life and to share that love with others.

Participating in these community events will help you, "GET IT!", just as Pastor Jenn referred to in her sermon. All of my 17 high school Junior Varsity players volunteered at Manna in September. Many took food donations and some brought clothes donations. They spoke about what they got out of that experience for days afterwards. They thought that they were there giving, not necessarily receiving-how little do they know that God was giving them love and thanks for their participation! Those good feelings were a gift, and maybe the only gift of love and good feelings that they received that week. Try it on for size-take advantage of opportunities you have to share the story of Jesus Christ to others. You will be glad you did, and others will be glad, too!

Joy Becker, From the President

  Music Selection Team

Do you love music?    Would you like to be part of the team that selects the hymns for Sundays?    Here's your chance!

The Worship & Music Committee is interested in forming a small team of people who would be available to work with Anthony and Pastor Jenn to pick our Sunday hymns. We would meet quarterly and invite two people from the "Team List" to join us for that meeting. We would rotate team members for each meeting, so that we could hear from a variety of voices and musical preferences.

If this is something you are interested in being a part of, please put your name on the sign-up sheet in the lobby or contact the church office.

If you have any questions, contact Anthony at [email protected] or Pastor Jenn at [email protected]
