Greetings from the Superintendent of Schools
|
|
Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year. This annual Back-To-School Newsletter is an opportunity for you to learn more about our school community. This year we continue to offer this communication in a format that provides the maximum amount of information on topics of interest with ease of accessibility.
Our strategic plan
Vision 2020: Strategically Planning for the Future
, and each school’s improvement plan, provides a pathway for continuous learning, growth, and development. We are mindful that to achieve our shared vision of providing an exceptional educational experience for all students it is essential that we explore opportunities that celebrate and cultivate our spirit of collaboration with town officials, parents, students, community members, and organizations.
The Northborough, Southborough, and Northborough-Southborough Regional School Committees share in this commitment by working with all stakeholders to develop educationally sound and fiscally responsible teaching and learning experiences.
Please take a moment to visit each link and to learn more about our ten schools, three districts and become part of one community of learners.
All the best,
Christine M. Johnson

School Bus Information
Bus routes are posted on the district website
The Public Schools of Northborough and Southborough provides bus transportation for all students. We work closely with our transportation provider, North Reading Transportation (NRT) to establish routes that are safe and stops that are accessible. Our bus routes also consider reducing the commute time for students to and from home and school by consolidating bus stops..
Please contact the Office of the Superintendent if you wish to receive a paper copy of our routes. Copies are also available at each of our schools, Northborough Town Hall and Southborough Town House.
Please note that a bus driver is not able to change a bus route or a stop. If you feel that you would like us to review an existing stop or consider adding a new stop, please contact Pauline Joncas at 508-486-5115
X71252. The school district and NRT will work together within the first two weeks to review all routes and requests. Any changes to bus routes will be republished no later than September 17, 2018. Parents will receive a notification of any change, and that change will take effect within 24 hours.
There are a few safety tips and general parameters for transport to and from home and school that are important to note. It is essential for all students to be ready for boarding at the designated stop and should stand 15 feet away from any roadway while waiting to board the bus. No students should be standing on any main road while waiting for the bus to arrive. All students who live on a high traffic roadway, as well as all kindergarten students, are transported door to door. Parents that have concerns relating to school bus transportation should call their building principal, and if concerns persist, contact the Office of the Superintendent at 508-486-5115.
Our school buses in are equipped with seat belts, and the
administration strongly recommends that all of our students begin the school year by "buckling up" and continue this safety procedure throughout the year. All schools will be conducting training on school bus safety and on the importance of wearing seat belts. We encourage parents to discuss the importance of using seat belts with their children.

Parent and Community Organizations

We are grateful for the enthusiastic collaboration of our community and parent organizations. Their spirit of volunteerism and fund raising efforts help to spearheaded new programs, provide valuable resources for our students and assist in maximizing our resources. They share our belief that innovative thinking and programming are essential to the pursuit of excellence in teaching and learning. Our professional staff continues to explore every opportunity to provide options for all students and partner with these organizations to present new ideas that open doors for learning, often by writing and submitting grants. These grants supplement the curriculum and enrich the classroom experience for students.
We appreciate your continued support and thank you for your tremendous contributions to our District on behalf of our students and teachers.
