New Construction and Rebuilds

In November 2018, the Fort Bend ISD community approved a bond package that earmarked $403.4 million for new construction, rebuilds and classroom additions and $19.7 million for future land purchases. Despite challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, the District continues progress on these projects.

New Construction

To accommodate growth in the District’s central and southeast areas, the bond program funded the construction of three new campuses: Almeta Crawford High School, Sonal Bhuchar Elementary and Alyssa Ferguson Elementary.

Almeta Crawford High School

The Board voted unanimously to name High School 12 after Almeta Crawford, a dedicated educator with 49 years of experience who taught for at least 30 years at Dulles High School.

Crawford inspired many students to become educators, and a good number returned to FBISD. Crawford was awarded the 2018 Jan DeBlance Memorial Award for Instructional Excellence by Abydos Literacy Learning, and was a Diamond-Level Abydos Literacy Learning Trainer as well as a well-known, well-respected educator who was admired by her peers throughout the state.

Almeta Crawford High School is located at 801 Caldwell Ranch Blvd, Rosharon, TX 77583 and is scheduled to open fall 2023.

Sonal

Sonal Bhuchar Elementary

The FBISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously to name Elementary School 53 after the late Sonal Bhuchar, a former trustee who was a tireless servant with a long history of community leadership.

Bhuchar is described as a trailblazer in Fort Bend County and a leader in the field of education. After her long association with the Fort Bend Education Foundation, Bhuchar was elected to the FBISD Board of Trustees for six years and served as the Board President for two years.

Sonal Bhuchar Elementary is located at 5503 Thompsons Ferry Road, Missouri City, TX 77459 and is scheduled to open fall 2023.

Alyssa Ferguson Elementary

The Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustees unanimously agreed to name the District’s new Elementary School 54 after Alyssa Ferguson, a Ridge Point High School student who lost her life to brain cancer.

Even in the midst of her own cancer battle, Ferguson acted with amazing generosity and a spirit of giving. When she received a wish from the Make-a-Wish Foundation, Ferguson used her wish to dig a well in a village in Zimbabwe that did not have access to clean water. Eight wells have now been dug because of the mission she started.

Alyssa Ferguson Elementary is located at 1300 Heritage Park Dr., Missouri City, TX 77459 and is scheduled to open fall 2023.

Lakeview and Meadows Elementary Rebuilds

Lakeview Elementary

On March 21, 2022, students and staff were welcomed back to their new campus. Lakeview Elementary was the first campus in Fort Bend ISD and served its community for over 100 years.

Meadows Elementary

Construction on the rebuild for Meadows Elementary is complete, and students and staff were welcomed back to the campus in April 2021. Check out our virtual tour of the Mustangs' new home below.

Ronnie Davis Agriculture Center Barn

Fort Bend ISD’s Ronnie Davis Agriculture Center is complete and opened to students this spring. Fort Bend ISD FFA students recently began moving their animals into the newly-opened Ronnie Davis Agriculture Center.

The new state-of-the-art barn, located adjacent to Marshall High School, was funded through the 2018 Bond Program and will serve agriculture students from Elkins, Hightower, Marshall, Ridge Point and Willowridge high schools.

Planning Ahead

When planning for the 2018 Bond, the District developed a capital plan that identified $1.72 billion in improvements that needed to be made to District facilities and programs. In order to keep the bond package under $1 billion, it was split into two parts. As a result, FBISD’s Board of Trustees called a $992.6 bond election for November 2018 which passed with 74% approval from voters.

The bond election needed to support the second phase of the capital plan was scheduled for November 2021. However, it was postponed due to the pandemic and leadership changes within the District. FBISD continues its collaborative planning to address the District’s ongoing needs to support student learning for the second phase.
