2018 District Showcase Award Recipients
Four Indiana Districts have been named this year to receive the 2018 District Showcase Award. Adams, Bartholomew, Marion, and Porter County Soil and Water Conservation Districts will be hosting visits and premiered at the 2019 Annual Conference of Indiana SWCDs in January.

Webinar: Role of Agroforestry in Supporting Pollinators

Join the conversation to learn how agroforestry practices can be designed and managed to support pollinator conservation and services in temperate regions. Agroforestry can enhance habitat and reduce pesticide exposure for pollinators and other beneficial insects. 
USDA Releases Standard Indicators and Laboratory Procedures to Assess Soil Health for Public Comment
The U.S. Department of Agriculture is releasing a set of standard indicators and associated laboratory procedures to assess soil health. 
A draft Technical Note detailing these soil health indicators and associated laboratory methods is posted in the  Federal Register  for public review and comment. Comments on this Technical Note will be accepted through December 13, 2018.
FFA National Convention and Expo: Volunteers Needed
 The FFA National Convention and Expo will be returning to Indianapolis this year and will run from October 24-27, 2018. As in years past, NRCS will be supporting the Natural Resources and Environment Judging events and is asking for volunteer assistance from partnership staff. Women in Agriculture Award Recipients 
Honored at State Fair 
Two Indiana women recognized for their commitment and contributions to the agriculture industry were honored during the Indiana Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch's Celebration of Agriculture, held Aug. 16 at the Indiana State Fair. The recipients were selected by the Purdue Extension Women in Agriculture team. The team coordinates such programs as the Midwest Women in Agriculture conference and regional educational workshops in addition to the Women in Agriculture Achievement and Leadership Awards.

A well planned and implemented tree ordinance can regulate different aspects of planting, preservation, maintenance, and management of trees - helping to ensure a healthy, sustainable urban forest. This free workshop will include presentations on common and recommended ordinance components, integration with other city ordinances and codes, and plenty of time to have your questions answered. Space is limited and registration is required.

Indiana Climate Change Impacts Assessment
A new report titled  Aquatic Ecosystems in a Shifting Indiana Climate  was released from the Indiana Climate Change Impacts Assessment. This report represents the outcome of a two-year collaboration among experts at Purdue University, Purdue Northwest, Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant, University Notre Dame, Ball State University, and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

Call for Poster Presentations for NC Region One Water Action Forum
Looking for posters that focus on successful partnerships and detail nontraditional, cross-sector partnerships for the benefit of our water resources. An example would be a partnership that brings together rural and urban stakeholders, such as farmers collaborating with a municipal water utility to protect a local water body.

Online Applications now available for the Indiana Watershed Leadership Program
If you’re interested in water quality and watersheds, consider applying for the 2019 Indiana Watershed Leadership Academy. The Academy, organized by Purdue University with support from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management and other Indiana conservation agencies and organizations, gives participants the chance to: 
Engage in basic and advanced level watershed topics covering leadership principles, watershed science, organization and communication, technology and GIS, stakeholder involvement techniques and policy skills.  Enrollment deadline: November 3
INPAWS Biodiversity Grant Deadline is October 1
INPAWS Biodiversity Grants support projects in three categories: research, demonstration gardens, and land management or conservation. The deadline for submissions is October 1, and results are announced in early November.
