Welcome to Volume 1, Issue #2 of the PSA NH newsletter!
This past year, North Country Camera Club President, Judy Burgess, received an Honor Award in the NECCC Nature Circuit for her Image of Goose Island at Sunset, Glacier National Park.
Judy says
" The photo is at sunset of Goose Island in Glacier National Park which is just off the Going to the Sun Road at the Northern End of the road. We started photographing early in sunset time and stayed until there was no more color in the sky.... The color just kept getting better and better as the evening came to an end. ISO 400 on a tripod f11, shutter speed 1/8 of a second."

Recently, I (Arabella) had the pleasure of attending the North Country Camera Club's meeting in Conway, NH. The evening's program featured Night Photography with judging and critique of the digital and printed submissions by noted wedding photographer and NCC Club member, Mike Duval . His critiques were thoughtful and artistic... Perhaps the best I've ever heard!
A musical slideshow of club members' recent trip to the Coastal Maine Botanic Garden's "Gardens Aglow" was greatly enjoyed by everyone. Here is a memo about the club from Judy Burgess, President:

"T he North Country Camera Club meets at Kennett Middle School in Conway, NH on the 2nd & 4th Thursday of each month.

The first meeting of the month is usually dedicated to an Educational Presentation/Workshop, e.g. - National Geographic Courses; Basic Editing with Lightroom Tools; Mobile Device Photography; Flower Photography; How to make successful Nature Competition Images as well as an annual Evening Photographic Shoot.

Here is a short promotional video about the NC Camera Club. Although it takes a few minutes to download, this amusing video is well worth waiting for... be the sure to turn the volume up!

One of our programs is the NECCC Nature and Open Competition Circuit which we participate in each year. The competition includes education and critiquing techniques.

The second meeting of the month is our digital and print competition with each month having a designated subject.

Examples of subjects are: Open; Nature; Night Photography; Black & White; Mobile Photography; Image with a Flag; Flowers/wild or cultivated. Subjects change each year. The judging is done by outside professional/amateur local and/or out-of-state photographer. Each image and/or print is critiqued by the judge with helpful hints on improving the image.

Also each year we have a Foliage Field Trip and a Winter Activity Field Trip.  Our Holiday Party is held in December and there is an Annual Year End Banquet in June."

The PSA Mentor Program: Among the many services available exclusively to individual members of PSA is the Mentor Program. This is a fine way to hone your skills. For example, if you wish to take your smart phone photography to the next level, consider working with Jerry Hug. I've had the opportunity to attend several of his presentations and to participate in a workshop with him. He is both a delightful presenter and a great teacher. This is the screen on the PSA website where you will find the Mentoring Opportunities.
PSA 2018 Conference Salt Lake, UTAH
Utah in the fall is especially beautiful. Nat and I enjoyed the pre-conference field trips and all the workshops and lectures.
Antelope Island's view of Salt Lake at sunset was a high point for sure!
The sunrise trip to see the wild horses in that amazing early light was equally fun. The fabulous lectures and workshops and the friendliness of the group is what makes these meetings so outstanding..

"This past year, I entered the annual contest sponsored by the Northern New England AAA's Journey magazine, because I had a very pleasing image that I made on a photo workshop in Maine's Acadia National Park & receiving recognition would help the workshop leader, Colleen Miniuk-Sperry , promote her fine work.
Having photographed in Acadia for more than a year, Colleen knew when to go where for great images. So, at the end of our five-day workshop, as the sun was rising over the hills in Acadia, she led us to a small pond ('The Tarn') that is about 2 miles south of Bar Harbor. At that particular time, the sun illuminated the distant reeds and caused the mid-October foliage to reflect in the pond.
I captured the image with a Fujifilm X-T2 with a Fuji Fujinon 16-55 mm f/2,8 lens (at '55 mm' or 35 mm-equivalent of 83 mm), a Singh-Ray ColorCombo Polarizing Filter, and a tripod; the exposure was 1/15 sec, f/16, ISO 800, with zero compensation. Remarkably, I did almost no post processing!"
Arabella Dane
News from the North American Photography Association's 2019 Showcase Competition : Flowers from Barbados by Arabella Dane was awarded the Judges Choice in the Altered Reality Class and will be featured along with other award winning images on the NANPA web site and in their publication "Expressions". The flower, Tabernaemontana corymbosa, a tropical flowering shrub from the far east growing in a Barbados garden , is merged into a background layer of a New Hampshire cornfield. ( Zea mays )

of the Seacoast Area was the featured instructor at Boston Camera Club's November program on Lightroom. This all day hands-on workshop was terrific! Rob is an accomplished photographer and a brilliant teacher. Read all about him! And consider asking him to come to your clubs. He is "the" authority on Lightroom, with several books in publication. The Boston Camera Club has a very inclusive set of educational opportunities shared with non-club members. Their site has an excellent component for paying for these adventures.
