CANstruction

Canstruction® is a unique nonprofit organization that holds annual design-build competitions to build giant sculptures made from canned food. Many AIA Rochester members and firms have participated in CANstruction over the years - some placing nationally in the competition!

VISIT THE DISPLAY

Canstruction Rochester's 2019 exhibit will be on display for two weeks. Stop in to see amazing giant sculptures of canned food.

Location - The Strong, 1 Manhattan Square Drive, Rochester, NY 14604

Hours

Monday - Thursday / 10am - 5pm

Friday - Saturday / 10am - 8pm

Sunday / 12pm - 5pm

Rochester's Great Architects

Presented by The Landmark Society's Young Urban Preservationists
and AIA Rochester

Hosted at the newly restored, historic Little Theatre!

Ever wonder who was responsible for designing some of your favorite buildings in Rochester? This talk will provide an introduction to the many local architects and their buildings that have shaped the city we all know and love today. Learn about the designers responsible for City Hall, the Liberty Pole, and some houses too, with lots of eye-candy visuals, some fun facts, and maybe even a bit of historical gossip!

Fashion Week Event

Product Runway, our Friday night opening show at 2019 Fashion Week of Rochester, was an astonishing display of creativity, dedication, and style. Now, view the building-based costumes and learn about the detail-oriented design process from the teams themselves. Each costume has so much more depth than what could be experienced in the short time on the catwalk!

Join us on the evening of November 16 for appetizers and drinks at The Metropolitan as we celebrate 2019 Product Runway! This event is open to the public. Stay tuned for more information, coming soon. In the meantime, enjoy the show in its entirety. FASHION WEEK VIDEO

gingerbr+EDIFICE

As a finale to our Centennial Celebration, AIA Rochester invites individuals or teams to use their creativity and have some fun once again to benefit the Rochester community.

Participants are challenged to recreate a Rochester edifice out of gingerbread! A limited amount of complimentary starter kits are available, or you can simply gather your own supplies and participate. Submit final photos of your edifice by November 27, and then carefully bring your edifice to the Holiday Party on December 5 to be auctioned. In the theme of 'shelter', proceeds will benefit a local homeless shelter. REGISTER

Project: The Children's School of Rochester

Architect: Architectura, PC

The existing building and site were renovated and an addition with site improvements was constructed. The existing building was designed by Edwin S. Gordon, Architect, in a Neo-Classical style and constructed in 1921. The front façade is designed with a limestone colonnade and limestone accent pieces in the entrance portico. READ MORE

AIA Rochester - Centennial Instagram Campaign

Our Centennial Instagram project continues daily to feature our members' projects in an effort to educate the public on what architects do. Follow us on Instagram at @aiaroc. The beautiful images from our member firms on our Instagram 365 Initiative have reached over 1.6K people on Instagram alone.

We are still collecting images. All firms are welcome and encouraged to participate in one of our public advocacy campaigns for 2019! All you need to do is email us 10 images (preferably JPG - 300dpi), include your firm name, provide a short description of each photo, and list the name of the photographer. Images of buildings: Images may include buildings, a specific image of a building element, community project. The goal is to promote local architecture firms, local architects and local good design.
