Over 150 people attended the November 14 th Annual Awards Reception at the Apostolic Nunciature in the United States of America last week in Washington DC. During the evening The Most Reverend Gerald F. Kicanas, Bishop Emeritus of Tucson, received The Archbishop Pietro Sambi 'Star of Bethlehem' Award for services to the Bethlehem University Foundation. The Northwestern Lieutenancy of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem was presented The Pio Cardinal Laghi Founders Award for outstanding support to Bethlehem University and Bethlehem University Foundation in celebration of the Lieutenancy’s years of generous support and creation of the Sir John McGuckin Mentoring and Internship Program and the new Sir John McGuckin Endowed Fund.

The reception was a glowing success, bringing in more than $400,000 in financial support for the work of the Bethlehem University Foundation, including $150,000 for the creation of the Sir John McGuckin Mentoring and Internship Endowed Fund.

During the formal program, His Eminence Edwin Cardinal O'Brien, Grandmaster of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem was invested as an Honorary Patron in celebration of the Equestrian Order’s generous support of Bethlehem University Foundation and his personal support of Bethlehem University and the Foundation. The Grand Magisterium of the Order recently made an extraordinary gift of $50,000.00 to the Sir John McGuckin Endowed Fund. During his comments, the Cardinal highlighted the friendship that exists between the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre and Bethlehem University and spoke of the need for continued support for Bethlehem University.

The Patrons are individuals or couples who make a qualifying gift to the Patrons Endowment. By their generosity, the members of this giving society invest themselves into the work of the Foundation in its sole mission of supporting and promoting Bethlehem University.

Following the investiture of the Cardinal Grand Master, the Bethlehem University Foundation invested six new patrons: Dr. Guy J. & Mrs. Gisela Di Spigno, H.E. Dr. Thompson M. Faller, and Mr. Paul & Mrs. Kirsten Keller. Thank you for your continued support for the mission of Bethlehem University Foundation.
The evening closed with comments from Brother Peter Bray, FSC, Vice Chancellor of Bethlehem University stating "When I think back to the time when Jesus was walking through Bethlehem, and what the purpose of his presence was as explained in John 10:10; "I have come that they may have life; life in all its fullness." That is exactly why Bethlehem University is there. Whether the students be Christians, or Muslims, or no faith at all, what we are trying to do is create an environment, develop an atmosphere, provide an opportunity for our students to gain the knowledge, acquire the skills, develop the virtues and the attitudes that are going to enable them to live life as fully as they possibly can.

A final treat of the evening was a video of Bethlehem University students congratulating the award winners, and thanking the supporters of Bethlehem University Foundation.
