Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear Champions Nominated For Mazda Road to 24 Shootout

Twenty six Mazda powered competitors competed in the 2019 Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear championships, and the drivers who recently took home their season class trophies have now been nominated for the 2019 Mazda Road to 24 Shootout.

The Shootout, scheduled for December 3-4 at the Michelin Laurens Proving Grounds in Mountville, South Carolina, will award the winner with a $100,000 scholarship to compete in the 2020 Battery TenderĀ® Global Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich Tires. The winner's car will carry the Mazda Soul Red Crystal livery on their Global MX-5 Cup car throughout the 2020 season.

"Our series and drivers really appreciate that Mazda recognizes the FCC presented by Goodyear as being worthy of Mazda Motorsports support," stated Series Official Ben Hettema. "We are always impressed with the amount of investment that Mazda makes in the sport we all love. Many of our racers, mechanics, and officials drive Mazdas as their everyday vehicles. It's been really great to watch some of our alumni making it to the top levels of motorsports with assistance from Mazda."

The Mazda Road to 24 (#MRT24) starts at the grassroots level for racers ready to embark on a path that takes them to the pinnacle of American sports car and endurance racing in the Rolex 24 at Daytona. The journey begins with the Battery TenderĀ® Global MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich Tires. The rookie-of-the-year receives a $75,000 Mazda scholarship to return for a second season; the season champion receives a $200,000 scholarship to race in either the IM SA Continental Tire SportsCar Championship or the IMSA Prototype Challenge powered by Mazda. Both of these series can be stepping-stones to the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship where Mazda competes for overall wins in the new RT24-P under Daytona Prototype international (DPi) rules.
