Congratulations to our 2019 Illinois State High School Champions!

AHAI congratulates our 2019 High School State Champions! We would also like to take this opportunity to extend our gratitude to the Chicago Blackhawks for their continued support of many of our programs starting with the Illinois State Hockey Championships.  Under the leadership of Rocky Wirtz, John McDonough, Jay Blonk and Pete Hassen, the entire Chicago Blackhawks organization has helped advance the growth of amateur hockey within our region.
The Chicago Blackhawks have sponsored the Illinois State Hockey Championships for 32 years, culminating with the High School Championships being held at the United Center. The Chicago Blackhawks staff - Matt Brooks, Annie Camins, Spencer Montgomery, Laura Jordan and their team - pull out all the stops to ensure a Blackhawks "Game Day" atmosphere for all the high school teams and their fans lucky enough to make it to the United Center. With 12,000 plus fans, TV coverage, and Jim Cornelison singing the National Anthem, the day is always the pinnacle of an entire season! Thank you again and GO HAWKS!

Ask AHAI: USA Hockey Nationals "At Large" Bids
Question:  I have heard a lot of different things about the USA Hockey National Championships' "at large" bids, and was wondering if you could explain how that works?

Answer:   The USA Hockey national tournament committee, having 16 slots, and only 12 Districts, looks for 4 "at large" bids for the AAA level each year. The District champions go to Nationals automatically. The USA Hockey tournament committee then fills out the field, looking for the best (or the ones they think are the best) teams that might be next in line, or the next best teams to fill out the tournament.  READ MORE>>

Michael and Jack Billings Share Bond Well Beyond Hockey Edit
By Greg Bates, Special to AHAI - Growing up, hockey bonded Michael and Jack Billings. The brothers played together in the backyard and eventually were on the same Oak Lawn Saints team out of Oak Lawn Ice Arena. The Billings boys now share an even closer bond in their 20s. But it's not primarily due to hockey. When Mike was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia on Sept. 20, 2018, it was his younger brother, Jack, who stepped up.  Mike - who was born with Shwachman-Diamond syndrome, which is a lifelong disease that affects every organ in the body - needed plasma and was in search of a match. End of Season with IntelliGym
What's your end of season mood?  As the season wraps up, players, coaches, and parents are likely feeling all sorts of things - relief, boredom, a sense of (depending on how the season went) achievement or disappointment. Or, if you're like a lot of hockey fanatics we know, you may be feeling extra motivated to make next season your best one yet.

The off-season is a great time to train physically - and mentally. Now is a great time to keep up your commitments to physical exercise and also a good time to diversify your activities a bit (think: swimming, volleyball, yoga, soccer, roller hockey, and any other Spring/Summertime ways to get your blood pumping). Another way to make the most of the stretch of off-time ahead is to add a cognitive training program to your training regimen, to help train your whole hockey self. READ MORE>>
