On December 26th, while on Christmas vacation with his family, Kristin's 15 year old nephew Grayson, was rushed to a hospital in Asheville NC, diagnosed with T-cell Lymphoblastic Leukemia, and taken via ambulance to Cincinnati Children's Hospital where he spent nearly 6 weeks in treatment.
Now that he's home, the chemo continues and now begins the preparation for a bone marrow transplant. Throughout this process, we've learned more than we imagined about blood transfusions, cancer, chemotherapy, and bone marrow transplants. We've learned that Leukemia will strike 44,000 Americans this year, including 3,500 children. We've learned that a pint of blood can save 4 lives. We've learned that 90% of us will need blood before we are 60 and less than 5% of us actually donate. We've learned only 30% of patients who need a bone marrow transplant have a matching donor in their families.
We're joining forces with The Kentucky Blood Center and Be the Match and asking for your help. Please consider donating blood and/or registering as a bone marrow donor (cotton swab of the mouth). Please join us May 29th between 1-6pm at
Keller Williams Louisville East, 9911 Shelbyville Rd
in the upstairs training room. This event is in honor of Grayson and all our brothers and sisters in need of blood and/or bone marrow.
