A big thank you to everyone who came out on a cold, rainy night last week to learn about the good work our legislators did this past 60 day legislative session.

Rep. Georgene Louis gave an update on many bills like the payday reporting bill, the minimum wage increase and Indigenous Peoples Day were just a few of the topics. There was a question regarding the amount of resources that were given to urban Indian programs. And although it is hard to quantify the amount because much of the urban Indian dollars are contained in other bills, we should work to better understand how to ask for what we need at the Legislative sessions.

There was also a lot of discussion about getting more organized and informed by calling on our local Native experts to help analyze the bills during the session. One community member is willing to help those that are interested in learning more about renewable energy. We still need to coordinate with Shawn and we'll let you know when those learning sessions will begin.

Lastly, we want to encourage everyone to continue informing our Senators and Representatives of policy ideas that will truly help our people thrive in New Mexico. We have a citizen's legislature that we should continue meeting with them and helping them better understand our daily struggles and opportunities.

So please make sure to update your information so we can continue to share important information with you! Thanks!!
