Be Connected
It is time to register for our October 14-15, 2019 GLD Conference at Trinity International University in Deerfield, IL. WWW.GLD-EFCA.ORG.
Be sure to sign up for the Women's Dinner. Becky Kompelein, our EFCA president's wife, will speak at our dinner on Resiliency as a Ministry Wife. The conference theme and key topics come from the book,
Resilient Ministry by Dr. Donald Guthrie.
The sessions focus on the needs of pastors and wives: Self-Care, Marriage and the Family, Spiritual Formation, Emotional and Cultural Intelligence, and Leading and Managing. We'll have great speakers for each of these main sessions. If you need a scholarship
for the registration fee, contact me at the email below.
Be Encouraged
During the months of August-October, let's pray for each other's 'Fear of God' Heart to continue to grow 'Fear of God' Roots. (From
Rooted Woman of Valor
on pages 68-87)
These 'Fear of God' verses guide us to the four areas of growth for our heart roots to anchor us in our relationship with the Lord through the challenges of life.
1. Circumcised Heart root | Pray Colossians 2:9-13
For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10 and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority. 11
In him, you were also circumcised with a circumcision not performed by human hands. Your whole self ruled by the flesh was put off when you were circumcised by Christ, 12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead. 13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins.
2. Undivided Heart root | Pray Psalm 86:11-12
Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an
undivided heart that I may fear your name. I will praise you, Lord, my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever. (NIV)
3. Trusting Heart root | Pray Psalm 33:18-22
But
the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, 19 to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine. 20 We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. 21 In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. 22 May your unfailing love be with us, Lord, even as we put our hope in you. (NIV)
4. Helpful Heart root | Pray Psalm 34:11-14
Come, my children, listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of the Lord. 12 Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days,13 keep your tongue from evil and your lips from telling lies. 14Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.(NIV)
Be Resourced
The book I would encourage you to read before our conference if you haven't already is
Resilient Ministry. More than likely your husband has a copy around or you can buy the book or ebook on Amazon. By reading or reviewing it before the conference, it will provide a great baseline for deeper learning from the various topics and speakers. Here are a few key quotes from its insights for pastors' wives.
- "People in ministry rarely feel understood and seldom have anyone with whom they can openly talk about their experiences in the church."
- "One of our earliest and most important discoveries made in our Pastors Summit research was the critical role the spouse and family have on sustaining leaders in ministry."
- "The overall objective should be for pastors' wives to feel connected to the concerns of their pastor/husband but not become crippled by the emotional difficulties of the church."
Praying for each of you and hope to see you at the conference!
