2019 Fairfax County Teen Job Fairs:
First jobs are a critical part of growing up. Below are the dates for my annual Teen Job Fairs and Resume Building Workshops. They give our teens the opportunity to speak with employers and businesses an opportunity to connect with teens looking for jobs. Many teens have left the fair with actual jobs and many more with scheduled interviews.
Since holding my first teen job fair in 2014 at West Springfield High School, I have partnered with the Connection Newspapers, other Supervisors, local chambers of commerce, Fairfax County Public Schools and the county government to grow to six job fairs last year across the county.
During our six job fairs last year we had combined attendance of over 2000 Fairfax County teenagers and 120 employers. These job fairs provided hundreds of teenagers the opportunity to get in front of employers and for employers and volunteer organizations to find talented, driven Fairfax County students to fill their positions.
These events will focus on student job seekers (approximately ages 16 to 18) looking for full time employment, after-school employment, seasonal positions, internship opportunities, or volunteer experiences. They are open to all teens in Fairfax County looking for employment or wanting tips to build their resume. Volunteer opportunities and resume building workshops will be available for younger students looking to begin to build their resume. We ask that students go online
to register.
Businesses and organizations have the opportunity to showcase their companies, brand their business in the local community, and advertise the positions they have available. It does not cost to participate. Businesses and organizations seeking to secure space at the job fair should

Northern Virginia Positive Aging and Wellness Fair
The 2019 Northern Virginia Positive Aging and Wellness Fair will be held on Monday, April 8, 8:45 am-4 pm at the Fairfax County Government Center.
The event will provide useful information to educate and inspire adults to achieve a fulfilling and healthy lifestyle as they age. Highlights include workshops, exhibitors and Keynote Speaker Pat Collins, general assignment reporter for News Channel 4.
The event is FREE, and lunch is available for pre-purchase.
Limited transportation to and from the event is available. The event is hosted by the Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia (JCCNV) and Celebrate Fairfax, Inc. (CFI), in collaboration with Fairfax County.

Fort Belvoir SM-1 Nuclear Power Plant Public Meetings:
As part of the Army's ongoing efforts to decommission and dismantle a deactivated SM-1 former nuclear power plant at Fort Belvoir, I wanted to keep you up to date on upcoming public meetings. The last meeting on January 29th was postponed due to inclement weather.
As such, the Army has rescheduled this off-post meeting to March 12th at Fairfax County's South County Government Center in Room 221 (8350 Richmond Hwy, Alexandria) for anyone on- or off-post interested in providing feedback and learning more about the project. The session will have a slightly different format than their on-post sessions, with the following schedule:
6:30 pm: Open House period where the public can meet and interact with USACE and Fort Belvoir personnel working on the project
7:00 pm: Formal presentation about the SM-1's history and ongoing decommissioning planning and a subsequent question and answer session
7:30 pm: Another open house period
8:00 pm: A second iteration of the formal presentation for those wishing to attend later in the evening
8:30 pm: A final open house period for questions and answers

Route 28 Widening Citizens Information Meeting - March 12
 The Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) has proposed widening Route 28 for a distance of approximately 2.3 miles from the existing bridge over Bull Run to the interchange at Route 29 in order to address congestion in this corridor. The project includes:
- widening the existing four lane road - adding additional lanes on side streets to improve intersections - upgrading existing traffic signals - improving bicycle and pedestrian connections and crossings, including new 10' shared-use path on both sides of Route 28
