Bouncing Back
We first met Ben last year at our RCF night at the Ranger Game. Like most high school seniors, Ben is looking forward to graduation and a bright future. Unlike most, however, he has spent his last half of high school battling Papillary thyroid cancer. As an involved student at the Young Men’s Leadership Academy, Ben was determined to remain active with the soccer team and the ROTC/Academic Team Raiders program. Although his cancer has prohibited him from being able to do all of the things he loves, he says his school has been very understanding and helpful, accommodating where possible. Staying focused on his goals has been a source of strength. Full story here.

On Saturday, March 30th Rutledge Cancer Foundation held Raise the Rate, Horned Frogs Kickin' Out Cancer with help from our amazing TCU student committee. Thanks to their help, our ninth annual kickball tournament was a huge success!

Starting with the first pitch thrown out by 4 year old Ewing's warrior Lincoln, the day was filled with inspiration, fun and laughter. Teams, fans and volunteers braved the cold and had a great time watching kickball and enjoying the delicious Heim BBQ food truck! Full story here .

RCF Visits Austin

Just before heading to Austin in March for Childhood Cancer Awareness Day, RCF was alerted that Bills had been introduced in the Texas House (HB 2682), and Senate (SB 959) to extend health benefit coverage for certain fertility preservation services due to cancer treatment.

As many of you know, loss of fertility is a common and devastating side effect for teen and young adult cancer patients as a result of toxic chemotherapies and radiation given to save their lives. The Rutledge Cancer Foundation/ Moncrief Cancer Institute Fertility Preservation Program stands in the gap for young patients in Tarrant County, with counseling, coordination and funding for preservation for those who could otherwise not afford it. This private model is not... Read more .

Click here to help by sending a message to your senator and/or congressman to ask them to co-author the bill and urging a floor vote for HB 2682 and SB 959!
