2020 AGJA Amber Waves Western Regional REOPENS

It is with great pleasure that we announce the reopening of the 2020 AGJA Amber Waves Western Regional scheduled to take place June 5-6, 2020, in Phillipsburg Kansas. The decision made on Thursday, May 14 to initially cancel the show was made based on the best interest of our attendees and their families using the information provided by the state of Kansas. On the evening of Monday, May 18, a new set of provisions was released by the state of Kansas to make accommodations specifically for livestock competitions and shows much like our own. After quick deliberation among the show coordinators from the Kansas Junior Gelbvieh Association, along with AGA staff and leadership, we have decided to bring this show back to life under the following circumstances:
  1. Maintain a 6' distance between individuals or groups to the best of your ability at all times.
  2. Entries must be submitted via mail or email and be postmarked no later than May 27, 2020. We will not accept entries upon arrival.
  3. We will call families to cattle check-in one at a time on Friday, June 5, to avoid crowding.
    • Please be sure to have registration papers, health papers and any other supporting documents ready when you arrive.
    • Be sure your animal's ears are clean and tattoos are legible. We are also accepting Freeze Brands and EID tags as a form of permanent identification.
  4. We encourage those non-essential to the management of cattle (extended family, friends etc.) to stay home.
  5. Only ONE parent/guardian will be permitted with the exhibitor in the make-up area to reduce the number of people gathered in one area.
  6. Spectator seating/viewing will be very limited to abide by the guidelines outlined by the Kansas Department of Agriculture.
  7. All guidelines issued by the Kansas Department of Agriculture regarding livestock competitions and shows will be followed. Please view those guidelines by clicking the following link: Guidance for Livestock Competitions and Shows
While there will be space available in the barn for the duration of the show, you will have the option to tie to your trailer for the weekend to help keep crowding to a minimum. Any bedding, straw, hay or manure accumulated throughout the event must be removed by exhibitors before departure. There will be a designated area for all waste to be dumped. Please do your best to leave the fairgrounds in the same, if not better conditions as we found them.

Please see below more details for the event regarding entries, schedule and t-shirts:

ENTRIES: All entry forms/fees received by the host committee before the initial shut down are considered accepted. If you sent in an entry form and you DO NOT wish to attend- please contact Meredith Clark or Leland Clark as soon as possible. See contact information below. Please submit any cancellations or refund requests by Sunday, May 31.

If you did not send an entry form, but would like to participate, the updated deadline for entries is to be postmarked by May 27. You may also submit your entries via email at [email protected] . Entry fees received via email will be collected at the show. We will not accept entries after May 27.

SCHEDULE CHANGES/MEALS: As we are now operating on a shortened time frame, no meal will be served Friday evening. Please limit the number of individuals traveling into town for meals as best as we can. Contest awards will be announced and prizes will be distributed during the show on Saturday. You can find a revised schedule on the Western Regional section of the Regional Show page found under the Juniors tab at Gelbvieh.org.

T-SHIRTS: There will not be a show t-shirt this year as it will not be feasible to place an order with the entries being received so close to the show. Exhibitors may wear western attire (collared shirt, nice blouse, jeans etc.) or their Blue AGJA polo.

We are hopeful for a successful and safe weekend but please remember we are guests to Phillips County and should be respectful of their wishes and the health of their community. Use proper hygiene to avoid the spread of disease including proper hand-washing techniques. Wash your hands regularly and before eating. Use hand sanitizer frequently. Avoid touching your face. If you are not feeling well or have a fever, please stay home. If any further changes are made, AGJA members will be notified via email.
