2020 AOH-LAOH National Convention Goes Virtual
June 2, 2020
Dear Brother and Sister Hibernians:
Today we have the unfortunate responsibility to notify all members of the AOH and LAOH that the 2020 national convention will move to a virtual convention due to COVID-19. The health and safety of our membership is the reason for this change. Details of both the AOH and the LAOH virtual convention will follow as plans are finalized.
Please DO NOT contact the Rosen Centre Hotel to cancel your reservations.
All reservations will be automatically canceled and you will receive a cancelation confirmation email. If by some chance you do not receive a cancelation confirmation by the end of next week, you may contact the hotel as a follow-up.
The AOH and LAOH National Boards and membership wish to thank the local convention committee and the Rosen Centre hotel staff for their great work preparing for this convention. It is our hope that we can be in Orlando in 2024 to complete what we began four years ago.
Please do not contact the Convention committee. Refunds for packages will begin to process immediately. If you do not receive information on your refund by the end of next week you may contact the convention committee directly.
The challenge presented to us today includes opportunities for continued success of both the AOH and LAOH. We anticipate participation from delegates virtually who would otherwise not be able to participate in the 2020 AOH LAOH national convention. We look forward to a successful and historic convention as we go virtual for the first time.

Trinity Sunday is the traditional date by which one has been expected to complete the “Easter duty,” an impossibility in many places this year due to quarantine measures. On Sunday, June 21, we pass back into Ordinary time, and the color for vestments is green.

FONTENOY
Any reader of America’s Civil War history knows of the Irish Brigade and their battle cry ‘Remember Fontenoy’, but a true understanding of that emotion is often not given other than to note that it refers to the Irish Brigade in the French Army. To understand it fully we must go back to the origins of the first Irish Brigade in a trade of French soldiers for Irish made in 1690. When William of Orange was invited by a Protestant Parliament to take the crown of England deposing Catholic James II, France’s Catholic King Louis XIV favored Stuart King James II in his struggle to regain his throne. In 1690, Louis sent 6,000 French regulars to James in Ireland, but since he needed men in his own struggle with William on the continent, he received about 5,000 Irish recruits in return under the command of Justin McCarthy, Viscount Mountcashel. Ireland got the best of the trade at the time but, as it turned out, it would be a better bargain for France in the years to come. The Irish troops were organized into three regiments, known by their commanding officers: O’Brien’s commanded by Colonel Daniel O’Brien; Dillon’s, commanded by Colonel Arthur Dillon and Mountcashel’s commanded by McCarthy himself...

Charities and Missions Update – June 2020
In this time of continued uncertainty brought on by the COVID virus, and the civil unrest currently unfolding in cities around our country, our continued focus on extending charity, supporting unity, and reinforcing old and building new friendships is increasingly important. It bears repeating, that the Ancient Order of Hibernians has always risen to the challenge of providing for those in need. Whether it be money, food, time, clothing–even support of civility among our fellow Americans, members of the Ancient Order have risen to the occasion. In these trying times we have bothers acting as first responders protecting property and responding to the call brought on by violent protests. We also have brothers protesting peacefully in support of protecting life and civil treatment of all our fellow citizens. Both must be thanked and respected for serving their respective missions. Serving humanity and the humane treatment of all is the Light Jesus brought to us and taught us to emulate...
