For those members that are Certified Building Safety Inspectors and Certified Code Enforcement Officials please be aware that Advanced In-Service Training is required. Read below for more information.
To take the class:
  1. Log in to SLMS using your username and password.
  2. Click on “Find Learning”
  3. Search the name of the class, in this case "2020 Advanced In-Service”
  4. Click on “Enroll”, then click on Submit Enrollment”
  5. Click “My Learning” and then “Launch” under the class listing.

The Secretary of State is requiring Certified Building Safety Inspectors (BSIs) and Certified Code Enforcement Officials (CEOs) to receive Advanced In-Service training.   This mandatory training must be completed by December 31, 2020.

The Advanced In-Service training requirements are as follows:

  • BSIs must successfully complete 3-hrs of training as specified below:
  • 2020 Advanced In-Service – Part 1, Course #49-0125, 2-hrs Topic 1
  • 2020 Advanced In-Service Exam, Course #49-0127, 1-hr Topic 1

  • CEOs must successfully complete 5-hrs of training as specified below:
  • 2020 Advanced In-Service – Part 1, Course #49-0125, 2-hrs Topic 1
  • 2020 Advanced In-Service – Part 2, Course #49-0126, 2-hrs Topic 2
  • 2020 Advanced In-Service Exam, Course #49-0127, 1-hr Topic 1

The  2020 Advanced In-Service – Part 1 course   focuses on provisions contained in the 2020 Fire Code of New York State and the 2020 Property Maintenance Code of New York State. Embedded within this course are a series of questions. These questions must be correctly answered to allow learners to progress through the course. Please note that the 2020 Advanced In-Service Exam (#49-0127) is a separate requirement that must be completed.
 
The 2020 Advanced In-Service Exam is a self-study course that directs participants to certain administrative and enforcement requirements found in Chapter 1 of the 2020 Fire Code of New York State. Following a self-paced review of Chapter 1 of the Fire Code, course participants will be required to complete an examination of the previously reviewed material. Participants may find it beneficial to complete the  2020 Advanced In-Service Part 1 course   before attempting 2020 Advanced In-Service Exam. Learners may take the exam as many times as they need to pass.
 
Both the 2020 Advanced In-Service Exam and the 2020 Advanced In-Service – Part 2 course will be available through SLMS within the coming weeks.
