We are just a few days away from the 2020 China Peak Enduro - the season opener for the 2020 California Enduro Series - and an EWS Qualifier.
It’s been a tough year and we are all looking forward to getting back to some sense of normal and being able to start racing again - key to all this is the mutual respect among riders, CES and China Peak. We all want to have a great race and keep people safe in doing so. Respecting one another and the guidelines will make for a positive experience.
Covid 19 Protocols
Face Coverings
- Wear Face Coverings in all indoor public spaces - such as bathrooms, hotel, restaurant, bar, day lodge. Also Wear Face Coverings in public outdoor spaces where you are not likely to be able to maintain 6’ social distancing - such as Packet Pickup, Timing Checks at CES Tent. You do not need face coverings at your campsite.
Social Distancing
-
Keep bike length away from each other in lift lines, stage starts, finishes and no congregating. Maintain social distancing. In your campsite and among people you are comfortable with, this is your discretion - you may choose to relax social distancing with family or friends you are traveling with - this is up to you. But respect others.
Lifts
- The lift is a 3-person chair. China Peak will be running them with 2 riders per chair for social distancing. If someone prefers to ride solo - China Peak will accommodate. Also, if there is a group of racers that are fine going 3-up, China Peak will accommodate that as well. The lifts will start running at 7:30am on Friday and running as late as practical to allow more opportunity to practice while running at lower capacity.
Packet Pickup
- Please print and complete the
waiver
and bring to packet pickup - this will reduce the need to use shared pens, and will speed up packet pickup.
No Rider Meeting
- To minimize gatherings, we will not have a rider meeting - the information in this email will constitute the rider meeting briefing. Please read. If you have questions, you can reach out to us via email, or on-site during practice.
Awards Ceremony
- To minimize gatherings, we would like to limit the awards ceremony to the racers on the podium and their family and friends.
No Feed/Water Stations
- we will not be able to provide community feed and water stations for refilling water bottles and hydration packs. Racers need to carry their own food/water during practice and race - and have their own resupplies. Bring sufficient food/water for practice day and race day. There will be emergency bottled water at the stage starts for folks that are in need - but do not rely on this water.
Bathrooms
- Public restrooms will be sanitized every 2 hrs and surfaces sanitized periodically.
Race BBQ
- The post race BBQ will be plated and serving 50 people at a time, with indoor and outdoor tables spaced for social distancing. BBQ service will start at 2pm on Saturday.
Rider Meeting
There will not be a rider meeting on race day - read this email carefully.
The most important points
- There will not be water/food on course, you need to carry your water and food with you. There will be emergency bottled water at the stage starts for folks that are in need - but do not rely on this water.
- Read and Understand the CES Timing System section below - you are responsible for activating your timing chip at EACH STAGE START. If you fail to activate your timing chip, we will not have chip times for you and we will have to use paper backup.
- Read the Start Times section below - your time to BE AT THE START of each stage is posted by category, stages close at specific times you must complete the stages before it closes.

- Up Hwy 168 to Coon Creek Road - left turn out of the ski area onto HWY 168 please ride single file, approximately 1 mile you will make a 180 degree left turn, crossing the highway and onto a ski area service road. From there you’ll climb, following signs up to the top of the mountain
- Stage 5 has an A and B route - The A line is steep, loose and technical, and the fastest line down - the B line is longer but more manageable.
- There is a course hold for Stages 4 and 5 - we cannot start those stages until stages 1 and 2 are finished - Check the Start Times sheet. If we are ahead of schedule and can start stages 4 and 5 earlier, we will let you know.

At the top of the table you will find the estimated transfer time for each stage to help you plan your transfers. We also allocated 10 minutes between stages, beyond the transfer times, to allow you to manage repairs, hydrate and get some food. So you will have plenty of time to make the transfers between stages and enjoy the day and the race.
NOTE:
Mandatory Time Check
- these are time checks at the CES Timing Tent for us to download your stage times off your timing chip. Failure to check there will be a 15sec penalty.

- Sport categories racing the stages 1, 2, 3, 4
- Beginner categories racing the stages 1, 2, 3
CES Timing System
We are using the CES Timing System, the same system used by the Enduro World Series. This is an active chip timing system - you’ll be assigned your timing chip at packet pickup.
Please read and understand the following
- CHIP ON RIGHT WRIST - You must wear your timing chip on the top of your right wrist during the race.
- NO OTHER ELECTRONICS - Do not wear GPS watch or other electronic device on your right wrist - nothing on the right wrist with the timing chip, they can interfere with timing. GPS on the stem or left wrist is fine - just nothing on the right wrist with the timing chip.
- ACTIVATE YOUR CHIP - You must Activate Your Chip before each stage start - there will be an ACTIVATE HERE post with a beacon at each stage start. As you get ready to start your race run, activate your chip (insert into beacon and hear the BEEP-BEEP-BEEP) - then enter the start gate.
- RETURN YOUR CHIP - You must return your timing chip to get your race results after you completed all stages. We’ll have a live display of results at the timing tent where you can check your standing as rides check in.
- DO NOT TAKE THE TIMING CHIP HOME - Please return it to the CES tent after the race. We'd rather not have to track you down and have you mail the timing chip back to us.
These timing chips are expensive, $70 each, please do not forget to return your chip at the end of your race.
We look forward to seeing you out there
Sincerely,
Steven Gemelos
