Grassroots Update
Earlier in July, we reached out to ask you to tell your legislators to say NO to emergency COVID-19 funding cuts to nursing homes and assisted living facilities by the Governor’s Office of Financial Management.

Together we have generated over 3,000 emails to the Legislature and the Governor’s office. Thank you for your advocacy!

It is critical for the Legislature to understand that funding cuts put peoples' lives at risk. Please continue your advocacy and encourage your colleagues, families, and others to tell the Legislature NO CUTS TO EMERGENCY COVID-19 FUNDS.

Please let us know if you have any questions or need support. We are standing by to help you.
Election 2020
Primary Election

On August 4, Washington held its primary election for the 2020 November general election. A number of hotly contested races will determine who will be on your ballot this November. To see the results of the August primary, click here.

The Secretary of State will certify the final results by August 21, 2020. This is due to Washington being a vote-by-mail state. To read more on vote-by-mail, click here.

There are a number of competitive legislative races, but if the primary numbers are indicative, it appears the overall majorities will change very little based on primary election results. Democrats currently enjoy a 28-21 seat majority in the State Senate and a 57-41 seat majority in the State House.

Due to Washington’s “top two” law, which advances the two candidates with the most votes in the primary election regardless of party, the Lieutenant Governor’s race will pit two Democrats against each other. Congressman Denny Heck was the overall leader in the race and will face fellow Democrat State Senator Marko Liias in November.

Washington’s general election is scheduled for November 3; we will continue to provide interesting election information in upcoming updates.
Advocacy - Register to Vote
Make sure you, your family, and colleagues are registered to vote in time for the November election. There are several ways you can register to vote in Washington that are social-distancing friendly.

You can use the online and mail-in forms to update your current voter registration.

If you are interested in registering other people to vote, please shoot us a quick note. We can help provide materials and guidance on how to conduct a voter registration drive.
I will continue to post updates to WHCA's grassroots activities. If you have questions or need additional information, please don't hesitate to email me or call.
