Salute To Leadership Week Set for June 1-7
|
|
Join LM for our
Salute to Leadership Week: a collection of events aimed at reuniting and reigniting a generation of LM leaders to advance Montgomery County.
Though it may look a bit different than originally planned, your involvement in Salute to Leadership Week will continue the momentum of the three pillars guiding our strategic plan:
Leadership in Action, Leadership Development and Leadership Engagement.
No matter if you were involved with LM
2 weeks ago or 20 years ago, you have played a role in our organization and we need you in order to celebrate.
Come one, come all and celebrate with us in one or more of the following ways:
|
|
Giving back is critical now more than ever. We invite our LM network to help us improve Montgomery County by volunteering at our summer service day on Saturday, June 6.
We have coordinated both
virtual and
in-person opportunities. Please note that all federal, state and local guidelines will be observed across all volunteer opportunities. Service through safety is our number one priority.

CORE, SLM and EL Application
Deadline Extended
|
|
We at Leadership Montgomery are looking forward to starting the 2021
CORE,
Emerging Leaders and
Senior Leadership Montgomery programs this fall with the county's best and brightest leaders. To give applicants ample opportunity to focus on immediate needs, we have extended the application deadline to
June 1, 2020.
Our goal with this extension is to provide space for you to navigate the current situation while planning for the future.
You can apply to our programs with confidence as:
- Application fees will be refunded to anyone not accepted into the CORE, EL or SLM program
- Tuition assistance and payment plan options are available to those accepted
- No program participant will be asked to make a tuition payment until mid-August
To maintain our program timeline,
acceptance decisions are being made on a rolling basis between now and June 1. We encourage all applicants to submit their program applications
sooner than later.
Additionally, LM
does not intend to transition the CORE, SLM or EL programs into virtual offerings. We will continue to monitor and follow all federal, state and local guidelines around in-person meetings. If these guidelines prohibit in-person convening in September, we will push the start of these programs to January 2021 and extend sessions through July 2021. You can view the tentative additional
dates here.
If you have specific questions or need to further discuss your application, please reach out to Ali Levingston, Vice President of Leadership Programs at
[email protected].

COVID-19: What You Can Do to Help
|
|
Supporting our communities, especially during this time of uncertainty and consistent change, is what matters most right now. Help and assistance is what people want to provide the most. We have witnessed communities rally in a myriad of ways over the last two months, especially to assist our neighbors during this pandemic. Leadership in Action at its best!
If you can't join us for our June 6h service day, here are some additional ways that you can HELP:

Black Rock Center for the Arts – Germantown, MD
BlackRock Center for the Arts is now the Upcounty Consolidation Hub for Community Needs. As a temporary consolidation center, BlackRock is receiving donations that benefit the Upper Montgomery County communities. They are also in need of volunteer partners, who will not only donate the necessary items (food, hygiene supplies, etc.) but also make no contact deliveries of donated items. Please visit
BlackRock’s website or Facebook page for more details information, and ways to be involved!
Nourish Now – Rockville, MD
This week, Nourish Now donated 300 steak dinners from CAVA and Hunger Relief Kits to families in need! Nourish Now is among those awesome nonprofits in Montgomery County, who is continuing to meet the growing needs of those families facing food insecurity in our county. They are also continuing to distribute food to families of MCPS students. Click

Have you ever wanted to pet a kangaroo? At Roos2U, you get to just that! At Roos2U, they offer behind the scenes learning and safe interaction with kangaroos. To support their kangaroos, Roos2U is having a Spring Yard Sale! We’re all doing WAY more organizing and cleaning up than we ever thought possible (or had time for!) during this unique and unprecedented time. Consider donating items for the Spring Yard Sale! Items such as large, well maintained furniture (cribs, chairs, tables, etc.) as well as appliances, clothing, etc. can be dropped off at their location for donation!

There are many
local nonprofit organizations
that need and welcome donations, but now more than ever.
Manna Food
, among other organizations, has risen to the challenge in a big way. They have expanded food distribution to include partnering with MCPS to get three meals a day out to students 18 and under. They have also temporarily lifted income requirements for families in need, until June 2020. Please support theirs and other nonprofit organization’s efforts by providing online donations.
