Chancellor's Office Message: NWoW in 2020

On January 10th, 2020 an email memo went out from Vice Chancellor Sheneui Weber of the Workforce and Economic Development Division at the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office. An excerpt is included here, and the full memo can be opened below:

"In 2020, New World of Work content will be transferred from Shasta College to the California Community College system’s comprehensive professional development platform, the Vision Resource Center . More information about the timing of the transition and format will be shared in the next few months. Colleges interested in having in-person, professional development training may still request and schedule training. Additional details will be forthcoming. For questions regarding New World of Work, or to be notified when more updates are available, please contact Nicole Scholes at nscholes@foundationccc.org .

Memorandum from the Vice Chancellor

We have provided the Chancellor's Office with our suggestions for updates to the postsecondary curriculum , the final 5 high school lessons that require branding and can then be released, and an online Canvas course version of the 21st Century Skills lesson series which is ready for use. In addition, we have provided an overview of the organizations and programs outside of the CC system who would continue to benefit from access to the FREE NWoW resources.

The New World of Work team at Shasta College has been completing final grant close out activities. Their existing @newworldofwork.org emails will also be closing, but for the next week they will include contact information to updated email accounts based on each team member's respective new job/project.

The pathway acts as a visual showcase of badges earned as well as proof of a learner's journey in obtaining increasingly higher levels of 21st Century Skills. By making the learning outcomes of all "Top 10" 21st Century Skills machine readable through Open Salt , the New Work of Work program is connecting its badges together into pathways that build bridges to workplace opportunities.

The stats are in, and they are impressive thanks to the dedication of instructors, support staff, and community workforce development providers like YOU who are offering skills education to learners of diverse ages and backgrounds.

NWoW 2012-2019 Summary Report

85 colleges are Official Partners with NWoW, and 88% of the 115 California Community Colleges have sent faculty/staff to NWoW trainings

366 groups who include K-12, workforce development, and adult education providers have attended NWoW trainings

97% of instructors using NWoW content feel it meets or exceeds their expectations for curriculum relevancy

87% of students and learners who have gone through the skills training feel it will be useful to their career and/or academic goals

87% of employers are more likely to offer work-based learning to students going through the skills training

9867 Learner Digital Badges have been earned to date

3939 Academic Digital Badges have been earned to date

All of this strengthens the ecosystem connecting instructors, learners, and employers with the outcome of an economy that serves all, not just a select few.
