Dear Parent/Guardian of Girl Scout Camper,
The outdoor experience is very important in Girl Scouts and greatly valued at Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines. We know the benefits that being in the outdoors provide and we always look forward to summer camp as much as the girls. Unfortunately, due to the current impact of COVID-19 and the uncertainty of its continued trajectory and aftermath, I am sharing with you the decision to cancel all in-person summer resident and day camps for summer 2020. This decision doesn’t come lightly and is made out of an abundance of caution with our guiding principle of safety first. As much as we love summer camp, nothing compares to the importance of the health and safety of our girls and our entire Girl Scout family.
The camp-related cancellations and closures include in-person resident camps and day camps, troop and service unit camping, volunteer-led day camps, and campsite reservations through August 14, 2020. Summer camp is such an integral part of the Girl Scout experience and one of the most cherished traditions for girls. We remain committed to providing opportunities for girls that build their sense of community, teamwork and resiliency through meaningful experiences. Our program and membership teams are developing safe summer opportunities for Girl Scouts, including virtual events, series and troop meetings as well as unique virtual camp experiences and even more Girl Scouting at Home activities. Information on these experiences will continue to be added to the growing choices on our
Girl Scouting at Home web page
and a full schedule of summer opportunities with registration information will be available by June 1.
All campers registered for summer camp sessions are eligible to receive full refunds, including deposits. Since we are starting our membership renewal period, you may also request that $25 be retained to go towards your 2020-2021 membership renewal. Additionally, if interested and you are in a position to do so, you can designate a portion of your refund to Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines as a tax-deductible donation to our council to support our operations in powerful ways, all year long. To make the request for a portion of your camper fees to go towards membership renewal or towards a tax-deductible donation, please simply reply to this email and let us know your preference by Wednesday, May 6. If you’d prefer to have the full refund of camper fees, you do not need to take any action. Please allow a few weeks for the refunds to take place. If you have any questions, please contact our

While we know that many, like us, have been holding onto the hope of summer camp, we know that this is the right, responsible decision to prioritize the health and safety of our members and staff. We know that your Girl Scout has likely experienced many disappointments during this difficult time – school closings, abrupt end to sports seasons, cancellation of parties and vacations and missing the in-person connection with their Girl Scout troop. To assist you in navigating the topic with your Girl Scout, Girl Scouts of the USA has provided pointers for talking with her about
coping with disappointments
the Raising Awesome Girls series.
We will miss you this summer, campers! Our camp directors and rangers have a message for you:
