Hello Lifters!

The Michigan Executive Order that was put into effect today will not affect this event. Powerlifting can be classified as an individual exercise or a professional sport. I look forward to seeing you all in a few weeks!
American Records

You will have the ability to attempt official American Records at this event! If you are attempting an American record, please notify the scorer's table when you submit the attempt, so we can ensure that the appropriate referees are available for your attempt. Without 3 National Referees present to adjudicate your lift, it will not be a valid American Record.

Here are some things to know about attempting an American Record.
  • American Records can be looked up in the USA Powerlifting Lifter Database. Click the link below to access the database.
  • American Records can be broken by as little as 0.5kg. This is called "chipping" a record. For example, if the current AR is 240kg, you can call for 240.5kg to break the record.
  • If you are registered for more than one division, for example, Junior and Open, you will have restrictions on the ability to "chip" a record.
  • If the Junior AR is 240kg, and the Open AR is 250kg, you cannot submit an attempt of 240.5kg to break the Junior AR. This would give an unfair advantage to your competition against the Open competitors. In this case, you must submit a minimum attempt of 242.5kg.
  • Furthermore, if you are attempting to break the Open AR, which is higher, you can submit an attempt of 250.5kg, since it would break both the Junior and Open ARs.
  • If you have further questions regarding this, please contact me at [email protected].
NEW POLICY - SPECTATORS & COACHES

In order to keep capacity limits low, each lifter will be able to bring along no more than 1 person with them. This includes your coach/handler. If you are bringing a coach, you may not bring anybody else in the building with you. A list of athletes will be kept at the front desk to ensure that no athlete has any more than 1 person present for them.

To ensure that each person is counted for, both spectators and coaches will pay the entry fee of $10, which will go to 3DFIT Arena. Spectators and coaches will be given a wristband for their respective session. Those in the building without the correct wristband for the session will be asked to leave or obtain a wristband for that session. If you are an athlete in one session, but plan to coach or spectate in another session, you must pay the entry fee and obtain a wristband. A full weekend pass will be available for $15, which will allow access to all sessions.

I would love to have your entire family come, but it is simply not safe nor lawful to have hundreds of people in the building at this time. We are lucky to be able to host this event, given the current COVID guidelines issued by the state. It has been an ongoing struggle to host powerlifting events during this pandemic, so your understanding is greatly appreciated.

Please have your coach or spectator fill out the COVID Health Screening Form below within 24 hours of the event. Admittance will not be allowed without a screening form confirmation.
COVID Health Screening Form

As we strive to continue running competitions that provide safe environments that minimize COVID exposure risks, we are now requiring everyone in a USA Powerlifting venue to complete a quick Health Screening Form no more than 24 hours prior to entering the venue.
Upon submission, you will receive both a confirmation screen and email.  The confirmation will need to shown to the event staff as you enter the venue. Anyone without a score of 100 or greater is not allowed to enter the venue.

Click the link below or scan the QR code to access the form.

Thank you in advance for your help in making our platforms the safest possible during these challenging times.
Lifting Cast

A positive aspect of having 1 platform going at a time is that we will have more equipment available to view Lifting Cast rosters. Liftingcast.com provides live scoring for powerlifting meets. With every weight class being so stacked with competition, it is important to make Lifting Cast your best friend. You can see all competitors' attempts and predicted placing. We will have Lifting Cast scoreboards in multiple places around the venue, but you can also access it on your phone at liftingcast.com. Click on the "2020 USA Powerlifting Michigan State Championships" link, and under the menu, click "Results" to view the live scoring.
Digital Referee Lights

Bar Loaded! With our new referee lighting system, you can see the clock ticking down once the chief referee calls out that your bar is loaded. You have 1 minute to get the start command for your lift. After your lift is complete, you will see your lights below the clock. Any red light will have a color card underneath, explaining what your red light was for. You can ask the referee what your card is for, but I highly recommend familiarizing yourself with the color cards in the rulebook.

Face Covering
Please wear a mask (or face shield!)

This event will follow COVID-19 procedures provided by the USA Powerlifting National Office. These rules must be followed in order to host sanctioned events. Until further notice, the mask usage policy is as follows:

All participants for this event MUST wear a mask at all times. No exceptions will be made for those with underlying health conditions. You are responsible for bringing your own mask. Coaches and spectators also must bring and wear their own masks. Your mask must:
  • Fully cover your mouth AND NOSE
  • Fit snugly on your face, showing no gaps
Other mask information:
  • Your mask must not be shared with anyone else
  • Your mask can be secured (with tape) so that it does not slide into your eyes
  • Face Shields are also permitted so long as they cover the entire face
  • Cloth masks and even large headbands can be used if they follow the above guidelines
NOTE: If you are not comfortable with wearing a mask or face shield on meet day, please email me at [email protected] to request a meet credit for a later date. No refunds will be given, as these rules are clearly stated on the event website.
Approved Equipment & Technical Rules

This event will follow the USA Powerlifting Technical Rules. As an athlete, it is your responsibility to learn the technical rules of competition and ensure that your equipment is approved. This also includes following anti-doping/drug testing guidelines. Because this is not a national event, it is not required to have IPF Approved equipment. However, your equipment must follow the specifications in the rulebook. Click below for more information on USA Powerlifting Rules and Bylaws.

As of this time, there will be no equipment check, as a part of our COVID-19 safety protocol. If you are not absolutely certain that your equipment is approved, please send photos to [email protected] to confirm. This will prevent you from having a potentially embarrassing experience on the platform.

Game Day Coaching

You've put in months of hard training to prepare for this event, so you should be able to crush all of your goals, right? Yes!

But something that you may not have prepared for was the strategy of going up against extremely tough competition, while still being on your A-Game. This event will undoubtedly see huge showdowns in every single weight class, and oftentimes, the champion is not the strongest lifter, but the smartest. What sets those people apart? The answer is: an awesome game day coach.

Whether you have a coach that does your programming or whether you follow a program on your own, having a game day coach, or handler, that takes care of everything for you on meet day is often overlooked. As an athlete, your goal should be to lift what is on the barbell, and not have to worry about anything else.

That is why USA Powerlifting Michigan State Chair and owner of Power & Performance, Dane Roach, has dedicated the entire weekend to offering game day coaching at a discounted price for athletes who inquire.

Dane has coached several athletes at local, state, national, and international level competitions. Take a look at some of his accomplishments and credentials:
  • Led 6 athletes to the podium at the 2019 Michigan State Championships
  • Locked in 2nd place for his athlete at the 2018 Raw World Championships
  • Helped his athlete win the overall best lifter award and cash prize at the 2020 Arnold Pro Raw Challenge with 2 PRs and a 9 for 9 performance
  • Certified USA Powerlifting Senior National Coach
  • Experience coaching at several Raw and Collegiate championships
  • and much more!

Whatever your goals may be, Dane can help you reach them. Reach out to Dane via the button below. Spots are limited!

Weight Class Changes & Withdrawals

If you need to change your weight class or division before the meet, please do so by sending us an email. Flights will be finalized 3 weeks out from the event.

If you would like to transfer to another event or withdraw from the meet, you can also send us an email. If you are uncomfortable with following the social distancing guidelines below, we recommend taking a meet credit for an event in the future when these guidelines are no longer in place. Please keep in mind that absolutely no refunds will be issued so long as this event is not cancelled.
That's all for now, athletes! Stay tuned!
