2020 Virtual Fall Judges Conference
Monday, October 5 - Thursday, October 8
Advance registration is required.
Welcome from the Incoming President of the College
To all members of the Judiciary in the State of Louisiana,

I am honored to be taking over as the new President of the Louisiana Judicial College. I would like to thank my predecessor, Judge Lori A. Landry (ret.), for her valuable years of service to the College, and to convey my thanks to the Board and Supreme Court for entrusting me with this responsibility. While we are aware that many things have changed in the past year, we are optimistic and confident that the college is in a position to pivot to more online content that will be relevant and readily available to our membership.

To that end, we are pleased and excited for our VIRTUAL FALL JUDGES CONFERENCE, the first of its kind, and just the beginning of the dynamic online programming we will be offering you in the coming months. Though disappointed that we can’t all be together in person in New Orleans this fall, we hope you will join us online for this important group conclave in which we will be offering programming that is topical and informative on subjects that will assist you in meeting many of the challenges courts now face. We will continue to offer judicial association meetings, Red Mass, and a full inclusive 8 hours of MCLE credit from the College, including topics such as state civil and criminal law updates; court cyber-security and developing technologies; and a special course led by the Chief Justice titled “Judicial Leadership: Implicit Bias & Explicit Justice” that will be offered as an ethics and professionalism afternoon seminar. For the full schedule, registration information and cost of the programming, please visit the Judicial College website.

To ensure that all judges are able to meet the 5-hour requirement pursuant to Louisiana Supreme Court Rule Part H, Rule XXX, Rule 3(f), the College will also offer a wide variety of additional programming between now and the end of the year. For current past recordings and materials from recent presentations that may be useful to attain your credit hours from College presentations, please visit LAJudicialCollege.org. We also encourage you to reach out to the College, or your applicable judicial association, if you wish to request specific subject matter, or see more recorded presentations on certain topics.

We know that these are challenging times, but the judiciary in Louisiana is agile and well suited to meet those challenges, as we understand what it means to be displaced from physical surroundings and systems we have come to rely on. The College is here to help you respond to those challenges through an information exchange that can make us stronger and more productive, and allow you to explore with experts and other members of the judicial system nationwide answers to many of the questions we all face as judges today. I am excited about my new role, and the role the College can play in assisting our members to be ahead of the game as we move forward. Thanks again for your involvement, and we all look forward to interesting and engaging program offerings in the coming year. Take care and stay safe.
