David Whilden, Former RiverLink Board Member & Audit Committee Member
David and his wife Jane moved to Asheville from Eastern NC in the summer of 1993. They have both always been very engaged in the community, serving in various capacities for several non-profit and educational organizations.
David was first introduced to RiverLink through RiverLink incorporator Jean Webb and founding director Karen Cragnolin. His service began as an Audit Committee Member, where he had an opportunity to learn about RiverLink's work in repairing the many years of damage done to the river and watershed. In 2012 David joined the RiverLink board, and served until his term was up in 2019.
His favorite aspects of serving on the Board were the opportunity to see what RiverLink and other like-minded organizations were doing to improve the quality of life in the area, and the chance to build lasting relationships with other Board members. He also enjoyed seeing the programmatic component of RiverLink's work, especially in regard to Environmental Education and advocacy.
"I’m very pleased to see what RiverLink is doing for Education and to see our youth in Americorps become so involved in this work. They have a recognition of what this all means for the future. My service to RiverLink was gratifying. I found passionate individuals who had a wonderful spirit and were committed to making our community the best it can be. It brought me in contact with many different people in many walks of life. I got to interact with the often unseen leaders and the people doing the nuts and bolts of this important work"
Thank you for your many years of service and leadership David!
