Advancing Our Vision into the 2021-2022 School Year!
The approval of this mitigation strategy is an important step in keeping our students and staff members healthy and safe as the COVID-19 pandemic continues on into the 2021-2022 school year. This approval also comes with the expectation that the plan will remain fluid and will be reevaluated and modified as we continue to gather data and learn from the experiences of our students, staff, and neighboring districts.
While the mitigation level framework provides guidelines specific to expectations about face coverings, close contacts, and quarantine requirements, there are many other areas of our school operations where additional details are needed. We have finalized the first version of the 2021-2022 School Year Operating Plan, which contains information about mitigation strategies, daily school operations, homebound instruction/virtual learning, positive case procedures, and more. Much of the information available in the plan is also accessible on our recently updated 2021-2022 School Year website, which also includes frequently asked questions.
As always, we remain dedicated to providing the highest-quality educational experience to each and every student in our school community. Our students’ successes this school year are reliant on our ability to come together as partners in education. We are grateful for your partnership as we head into the 2021-2022 school year.

Referendum Project Update
A new addition at Donges Bay
Since our community approved a $55.7 million referendum project in April 2020, an immense amount of work has taken place to move toward our goal of project completion in summer 2022, and we are on time for occupancy at the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year. The full project is still on time to be completely finished by the end of summer 2022, and we remain on budget.
As staff members begin to return to our buildings and students prepare to return to campus on September 1, we want you to know that things will look different at each school building, and that construction will still be very much ongoing. Please know that the district, along with our partner, Hunzinger Construction Company, are committed to a “School First, Construction Second” approach, ensuring that there is minimal disruption to our learning environments throughout the construction process. As they have throughout this past spring and summer, Hunzinger will work closely with district and building administrators to uphold a high standard of safety and the integrity of our students’ educational experience while construction is underway.
While there have been some intermittent delays due to industry shortages and supply-chain demands and inclement weather, the project remains on schedule. As the school year begins and construction continues, we ask that families, staff members, and visitors please follow all posted signs at each school to keep everyone safe. Principals will soon share messages with staff members and families containing more details about what their school campuses will look like, and what new or revised procedures may need to be followed in terms of traffic flow, drop-off and pick-up routines.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the construction process, please contact Kyle Thompson, Director of Maintenance and Operations ([email protected]) or Sarah Viera, Executive Director of Business Services ([email protected]).
Thank you for your ongoing patience and flexibility as we work toward improving our educational environments for all students!

Wouldn't it be great to know exactly when the bus was going to arrive when the new school year starts? MTSD families have access to a mobile app and website called "Here Comes the Bus" which allows you to view the real-time location of your child’s school bus on a smartphone, tablet, or computer, using GPS technologies with which each school bus is equipped. For more information and instructions on how to set up your account, please click here.
If you have questions about the app, please contact Riteway at 262-512-1044.

Free School Meals - Pick-Up Adjustment
On April 20, 2021, the USDA approved the extension of the waiver allowing all students to eat breakfast and lunch at no cost, regardless of eligibility status, through June 30, 2022. The district has been working closely with Aramark, our food service provider, to offer meals to all students attending MTSD. We are excited to continue to offer free school meal pick-up throughout the school year. Starting Wednesday, September 8, a weekly Wednesday meal pack will be available for pick-up from 7:30-9:00 a.m. at Homestead High School, 5000 W. Mequon Rd. All meals are free for kids 18 and under, and you do not have to be an MTSD student to receive a meal.
