Good Morning -

We hope this message finds you enjoying the last days of summer! Earlier this week, your student received their assignment for the fall semester in either Bostwick or Johnson hall. Since they will have a split assignment, we wanted to follow up with some added context so that you can best assist them with their planning.

Your student will transition to the newly-renovated Luter Hall for the spring semester because of planned renovations at Bostwick and Johnson Halls in the spring of 2022.

This move will be facilitated by our office and our moving partners. We are designing a process that we hope will require minimal extra effort from your student. Below, you’ll find a timeline and highlights around what we expect this transition will look like.
TIMELINE

  • August 2021 - Move-In: Check-in at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum (just off campus) and then arrive on campus and move your student into their room in Bostwick or Johnson
  • November 2021 - Packing materials arrive at your student’s room. On their preferred timeline, they can pack up their belongings for movers.
  • December 2021 - Finals week will be December 6-11 and buildings close at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 12. Before leaving for Winter Break, your student will need to ensure that their room has been completely packed.
  • January 2022 - Arrive back at campus. Your student’s belongings will have been moved to their newly-renovated room in Luter. Students will be allowed to arrive back a day early to unpack and resettle in their new room.
HIGHLIGHTS

  • Those with singles for the fall will note they have been assigned a roommate. This will be your roommate in the spring semester in your new shared room in Luter. We hope that you use the fall semester to get to know your future roommate and prepare to share a space.
  • We realize that some may have preferred a double room for the fall semester. Unfortunately, we are not always able to honor students’ preferences.
  • In November, your student will receive packing materials. The early arrival of these items is designed to give them time and flexibility as they get their room ready for professional movers, rather than to feel a crunch to complete packing and finals at one time.
  • Before residence halls close for Winter Break at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 12, your student will need to ensure that any belongings they do not bring home are packed and ready for the movers. Over the break, all of their belongings will be transported to their room in Luter by professional movers.
  • Students will have the opportunity to arrive early in January to have time to unpack and ready their new room in Luter ahead of the spring semester.
Your student can access information about their roommate and suitemates for Luter Hall on the Housing Portal at go.wfu.edu/housingportal. We are still working with our partners on the final floor plans for Luter Hall. We expect those to be available in the coming weeks and will share them with your student when available.

Throughout the semester, we will be in touch with your student regarding updates and reminders as the transition approaches. Please encourage them to share these communications with you so that you can all be prepared.

We look forward to welcoming you to campus in a few short weeks, and to welcome you back to the newly-renovated Luter Hall for the spring semester!

Best,
