Conference Website and 2021 CPSA Conference Virtual Portal

The Conference Website is a public-facing portal (open to everybody) where you can register and take a look at the sessions, schedule and list of speakers, and read important information for chairs, discussants and speakers.

The 2021 CPSA Conference Virtual Portal (the virtual portal) is the platform where our conference will take place. Only registered attendees will be able to access it using the login credentials (username and password), received when they registered.
How Time Zones Work?

The time zone used in the Conference Website is America/Toronto Time Zone (EDT), as indicated by the labels below the dates (schedule) and the search box (sessions).

All dates and times in the virtual portal will be automatically adjusted to display in the attendee's local time zone so that they do not need to convert anything (the platform automatically detects an attendee's time zone when they login to the virtual portal).
I have registered!
How do I access the Virtual Portal?

You will access the virtual portal with your login credentials (username and password received when you registered).

I forgot my password…

If you have forgotten your password, or would like to change your password, please visit www.pheedloop.com/forgot and enter the email address associated with your registration record.

You will receive an email with a special link that will allow you to change your password.

Use the same login credentials for all days of the conference.

Once inside the virtual portal, you can also change your password visiting the Account tab on the left-hand column of the Lobby.
Login failed - my username and/or password won't work

Copy and paste your login credentials provided. You may be adding a space or an incorrect character.
What technology should I be using?

Desktop computer or laptop - tablets and mobile devices are not compatible for all aspects of the virtual event experience.

Browser - Any major, modern browser is supported. This includes Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari. Internet Explorer is not supported.

Internet Connection - A high speed internet connection is recommended to participate in sessions without experiencing interruptions. A minimum download speed of 25 Mbps is recommended. You can test your internet speed HERE. If the stream is working, but the audio or video seems choppy, it's possible that your internet connection is too slow, unstable, or bandwidth is being utilized elsewhere. A hard-wired internet connection is more stable than using a wireless connection.
Tour of the Lobby!

When you first enter the virtual portal, you will be immediately directed to the Lobby.

On the left-hand column, you will find all the information about the event. Visit the tabs of this column! Under the Sessions tab, you will be able to add your favourite sessions to your calendar!

Additionally, the lobby is where you can access and view all active attendees in the virtual event.

On the top right-hand corner of the screen, you will see the following icons:
Language Settings
In addition to English and French, you will find 13 other languages to choose from.
Accessibility Adjustments
Choose the right accessibility profile for you: content, colour, and orientation adjustments are available. The platform is in compliance with WGAG, ADA, and AODA
Enable your notifications to receive important messages and updates about the platform and the Conference. Click on this icon to check your notifications.
Account – Set up your profile!

On the left-hand column, you will find the Account tab that allows you to manage your profile settings for the Conference.

Complete your attendee profile; it is important for networking. Your bio, important links (such as LinkedIn or a University profile page), and your photo will allow other attendees to find and contact you easily!

In this tab, you can also upload files such as papers / other important documents.

Here you will see the timezone detected automatically from your browser. (Example is PDT)
If you do not wish for others to view you as an attendee, slide the ‘Profile Visible in Networking Section’ toggle to the left.

Live Stream Sessions
On the left-hand column, you will see the Sessions tab. It allows you to view all the content of the conference, especially the scheduled sessions and on-demand recordings.

For each session, you will see a description, speakers information, relevant tags and files, sponsors, and social media links. You can also add any session that interests you into your personal calendar!

The sessions will start and end on time and cannot be held or extended.

Before the session goes live, you will see what we call a “pre-roll video”: this will continue playing until the session begins. You do not need to refresh your page; the session will go live, and the pre-roll video will disappear when the host has commenced the session.

We will livestream all our panels, roundtables and workshops.

CONFERENCE ATTENDEES: you will access the sessions through the virtual portal – Sessions tab, just clicking on the session of your preference.

Special reminder to chairs, discussants and speakers that they will access their sessions using a Zoom link you will receive before the conference (not through the virtual portal).

If you are a chair, discussant or a speaker and has not received this information, please contact marybelle.issa@cpsa-acsp.ca with the Session ID of the session you are scheduled to participate in

Example: H01(b) - Democratic Theory 1: Ongoing Debates

Full online conference experience for attendees!

Before the session goes live, you will see what we call a “pre-roll video” with the name of the session: this will continue playing until the session begins.
When the live streaming starts, click on “join audio by computer” and use “full screen.”

If you are still experiencing issues with the live stream, it's very likely local to your computer or browser configuration.

Here are some common troubleshooting tips that should allow you to experience the live stream session to its fullest.
Chat and Networking Areas!

This chat area is on the right-hand side of the lobby.

The Networking tab is on the left-hand column. Click on it and you will see the full list of attendees, who is online in any area of the platform; reach out to them and create a group (up to 5 people) or start private conversations.

Anyone in the platform who has a green halo around their image is online and active (example: Marybelle Issa is the only active attendee in the screenshot).

Additionally, you can filter through the attendee list, or use the search bar to locate attendees by their name, title, or other relevant tags. As an example, we searched “CPSA” to locate members of the CPSA Team. Simply search for attendees, click on their names and ‘Start Chat.’ They will receive a private message from you, which they are able to respond to immediately.

During the event, you can login early to network before the first sessions start (June 7 and 9, the first sessions start at 11:30am EDT; June 8 and 9, two sessions start at 10am EDT).

Network also during the breaks (there are 30-minute breaks scheduled between each of the session blocks for this purpose) and once the last session of the day is complete (5:45pm EDT).
Will the sessions be available later, on demand?

All sessions will be recorded and registrants will have access to the recordings from June 16 to July 10, 2021. Simply click on the session in the schedule that you wish to watch and you can view it on-demand.

If you have additional questions, please contact cpsa-acsp@cpsa-acsp.ca

Now that you have read this message...with your login credentials (username and password received when you registered)
