2021 Citizen of the Year Nomination Information
The Award
Since 1963, the Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce (MPCC) has awarded distinguished members of our community with the Citizen of the Year Award, recognizing their good works and accomplishments that have enriched the Peninsula’s quality of life. The 2021 Citizen of the Year will be awarded at the 113th Annual Awards Dinner presented by Monterey County Bank on April 30, 2022 at the Hyatt Regency Monterey.
Selection Process
Each year, prior to the Annual Awards Dinner, previous Citizen of the Year recipients are sent a nomination form to submit the name and qualifications for any candidate they feel should be considered for the current award. The Chamber also publicizes the Call for Nominations in its weekly Chamber Connection e-blast to encourage members and the public to also submit nominations.
Before the Annual Awards Dinner, the MPCC President/CEO collects all public nomination forms and calls a meeting of the five most recent Citizen of the Year Award recipients, who comprise the Nominating Committee. The President/CEO serves as a non-voting member of the Nominating Committee. The Committee meets to discuss the publicly submitted names and any additional individuals the committee believes fit the Citizen of the Year criteria and then selects a preferred honoree.
The Nominating Committee is informed of the decision and arranges to notify the award recipient. Strictest confidence is maintained throughout the process. The identity of the Citizen of the Year recipient cannot be divulged publicly until he/she is notified about the award.
Criteria
The selected Citizen of the Year finalist must:
- Embody an overall love of the Monterey Peninsula community
- Have a positive impact on the business community
- Demonstrate community leadership to the citizens of the Monterey Peninsula
