The Dublin Seminar for New England Folklife is pleased to announce the schedule for this year’s conference, Living with Disabilities in New England, 1630-1930. Since 1976, the Seminar has embodied the vision of its founder, Peter Benes, by offering an annual conference as well as publications devoted to exploring everyday life, work, and culture in New England's past. Named after the town of Dublin, New Hampshire, where the series started, Historic Deerfield has hosted the Seminar since 1989 in Deerfield, Massachusetts. The Seminar serves as a meeting place where scholars, researchers, curators, librarians, educators, and students gather to pool their knowledge and exchange ideas, sources and methods as they engage in deep conversation around the year’s theme.
The Dublin Seminar suffered a significant loss when its founder, Peter Benes, died in March 2021. We invite anyone who wishes to learn about Peter’s remarkable career and share recollections of his life to gather with the Dublin Seminar Advisory Committee for a brief time during the lunch hour to celebrate his life and legacy.
