7 months of hard work and its ready! Let me explain if you'll indulge me for a few paragraphs what's new in the Geller book. then I'll explain ordering |

In over a year gold rose from $1500 to $1800 to $2000. So the book had to be adjusted |
I went to the Stuller site and looked up each finding, head, shank, earring posts, etc to get the current metal prices in
For the current book. It's very accurate.

September of 2019 (just 16 months ago) when I published release 6.20 I had raised parts & LABOR equally by 20%. I did this to make it easy to get out a book quickly. Each revision takes me over 6 months (this one took 7 months)
It had been over 3 years since last revision so a 20% increase in labor was needed and it has not been increased this year.
So solders, stone setting, appraisals have not been increased but pearl stringing was adjusted UP.

Why would I lower some prices? The last two releases to get them out quickly I just increased all prices by a percentage. So the last 6.20 release was a 20% increase in all prices for the previous book.
That's wonderful but gold indeed went up over 20%.
But Platinum did not go up 20%. It's been around $900 to $1000 for a few years and its only up 10% now. So I used the Stuller cost and some platinum parts did came down a bit but some increased as well. Same goes for just a few silver parts but many silver items went up.
So here are just two examples using installing a pair of earring posts, solder and two ear backs

Sizing did not change except for the RHODIUM PLATING |
Ring sizing was just increased September 2019 so
I did not raise sizing. You might ask why not as gold went up.
I looked at the numbers and my prices are based upon a 3 time markup on actual material costs now and a 4 time markup on labor.
Example, on sizing a 3mm wide gold ring 1 size larger in the book is $78, with the labor portion being $66.00. That leaves $12 for the piece of gold, costing about a third or $4.00. The rise in gold made that little piece go up maybe 50 cents and I wasn't going to go through all of sizing for such small change.
BUT one area in sizing did go UP.
SIZING WHITE GOLD RINGS!
Rhodium has had a dramatic increase.in the past year. Previously I had added an additional $42 to sizing a yellow gold ring for sizing a white gold ring.
Now I have made the additional charge for rhodium plating $55.00.
So to make a 3mm white gold ring larger in the previous version was:
$120.00
In the newest version to size a 3mm ring one size larger with rhodium plating is:
$133.00
Side note, Silver sizing has remained the same as last time, it was not changed at all. It's mostly labor anyway.

Rhodium Plating Was Increased |
These are the cost of a 1 gram and 2 gram bottle of rhodium solution on Stuller's website as of
1-24-2021.
A lot of jewelers think "$20,000" for rhodium but a bottle doesn't cost $20,000, it's highly diluted.
As a jeweler myself and asking my colleagues I figure a bottle of rhodium solution can easily plate 100 rings before losing it's potency. Many jewelers say you can easily get 150 to 200 plating's from a single 1 gram bottle.
If a one gram bottle cost $633.00 then the cost of goods for rhodium plating on 100 rings is $6.33.
Triple that and sell the rhodium itself for $19.00.
I easily figure an additional $25.00 to steam, clean, dip the ring, pull it back out, clean and steam again. $25.00 in labor for 12 minutes work.
$19 for rhodium and $25 for labor and you should charge $44.00
New price is $55.00 and this works for a 2 gram bottle as well.
IMPORTANT: People get confused on charging for rhodium. This $55 to rhodium plate NEVER, EVER includes polishing the ring. NEVER.
You can NEVER just dip and rhodium without polishing it first.
If a customer brings in her white gold engagement ring to make it look like new it's NOT $55.00.
Its a refinish fee first then add $55.00 for rhodium plating on top.
The current price to take a yellow gold ring with up to 20 stones in it, check and tighten, refinish the ring like new is $42.00
If its white gold we ADD an additional $55.00 for the rhodium making the charge $97.00.
