Class of 2021 Graduation!

We're almost there! This is the final email we'll send out about Friday's graduation, so please save it and send any questions my way. Hopefully I'll cover all the details you need!

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

  • I'll hand out caps & gowns at Senior Supper tomorrow night, 6-8pm at AHS (this event is for seniors and staff only)

  • if you are borrowing any part of your graduation outfit from AHS (cap, gown or stole), I will have that for you; please remember to return borrowed items next week!
  • The following seniors need to bring $15 cash or check made out to AHS to Senior Supper tomorrow to purchase a tassel: Amira, Colby, Mason, Alysa, Sarah, Amelia, Leit, Xavier
  • steam your gown to get wrinkles out before the ceremony

  • Adela Floral is creating floral arrangements for the graduation stage. Contact Natalie at (970) 828-8000 or natalie@adelafloral.com if you would like to donate money to help cover the costs--the more our families contribute, the more beautiful it will be!

  • Please plan to arrive at the graduation venue at 10778 County Road 120 in Hesperus (25 minute drive from AHS via Wildcat Canyon, directions below) no later than 3:15pm

  • One car per family unless you've been approved for two (seniors should NOT drive themselves in a separate car as there is limited room)

  • This is an outdoor event--prepare for the elements (raincoat, sunscreen, layers) and wear practical footwear for uneven ground

  • When you arrive, seniors will gather up at the stage area before the ceremony begins with Jess and Libby to line up in alphabetical order

  • Get festive! Feel free to decorate your cap and your car if you like!

  • As this is a school event, we will ask all attendees to wear masks throughout the ceremony, even if vaccinated. The exception will be when speakers are delivering speeches and when grads are having their portraits taken by Karen Skelly after receiving diplomas.
Directions and Post-Ceremony Parade
We recommend you use the following route to get to the venue:

  • from AHS, go 0.3 miles west on Highway 160
  • turn left onto Wildcat Canyon Road/CR 141
  • travel 11.4 miles on CR 141
  • turn right onto CR 140 north
  • cross the La Plata River and turn left onto CR 120 (0.6 miles)--look for green and gold balloons at this intersection
  • go 2.7 miles and look for 10778 written on a large rock on the left/south--there will be more balloons here as well as volunteers directing traffic; if CR 120 turns to dirt road, you have gone too far
  • proceed up the driveway to the graduation venue on the right

After the ceremony take the following parade route to downtown Durango. We are encouraging our community to line the route to cheer for the graduates:

  • turn right at the end of the driveway onto CR 120 heading east
  • turn right onto CR 140
  • after 0.6 miles, turn left onto CR 141
  • after 11.4 miles, turn right onto Highway 160 east--wave at AHS as you drive by!
  • turn left onto Camino del Rio
  • turn right onto College Drive
  • right on Main Avenue and disperse!
