President's Message

Dear Friends of SEF,

After more than a year of lockdowns, school closures and much anxiety, it feels so wonderful to see our city coming back. With the reopening of schools and other favorite local spots comes hope and new energy. With this transitional stage also comes new challenges for us parents to navigate – hybrid school schedules, the anxiety of re-entering a world where the virus still lurks, regular COVID testing and vaccines and figuring out how to best manage our own comfort level with those of our friends and families. I am both humbled and inspired by the way our community has banded together time and time again. From students to teachers to administrators and to you the parents who truly are the glue; the camaraderie and resilience on display amongst families’ in our community is simply special. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank everyone for everything you are doing for our community.
As we continue to celebrate the creativity and resilience in all of us, up next for SEF is our inaugural event 2021 Art Exhibition ~ Dream. Imagine. Create. We are filled with much enthusiasm to announce details about the drive-thru prize distribution event and live celebration event via Zoom as well as share the virtual art museum installation with the community.....plus share 30 pieces of artwork that have been developed into pole banners which will be hung in the San Gabriel Mission District for public viewing surrounding the end of Art Exhibition program events. WOW just wow is the first word that comes to mind when thinking about the many beautiful layers of our 2021 Art Exhibition ~ Dream. Imagine. Create. When we first envisioned what our inaugural event would possibly look like we could have never imagined how far our journey would take us.

I am thrilled to highlight and can’t thank enough our gracious event sponsors, An Anonymous donor advised fund at the California Community Foundation, Cathay Bank Foundation, Chick-fil-a, Pasadena, Mission Valley Free Methodist Church and numerous community members in and around San Gabriel who gave so generously in support of our inaugural event. It is with your investment that we have been able to address the loss of meaningful connection through the healing power of the arts and create an environment of community involvement and engagement with our schools in a positive and impactful way. Thank YOU for sharing in our vision to develop an event that has enhanced our community’s capacity to support the educational environment in SG public schools for all the students!!

We are especially thankful to the talented artists for sharing their amazing art masterpieces with our community. I would also like to thank the entire SEF Board of Directors, and our administrative team who under the guidance and leadership of our event chair, Rosiris Paniagua, have worked tirelessly to create a fabulous event that cultivates creativity, exploration, skill and confidence in our youth.  Sincere thanks to the City of San Gabriel for their partnership in our inaugural event, we appreciate the confidence you have placed in our organization and your collaborative efforts to serve our community. When I say it takes a village it really does!

SEF is so proud to be part of this great big beautiful mosaic we call San Gabriel!  Together we are helping to make a difference in the lives of so many and for this we are so grateful!! A huge thank you to all of the amazing student artists for sharing their talent and creative energy with us. We are inspired to dream, imagine and create because of you!!

Thanks for reading and wishing you happy, sunny days ahead.
