Marcia Petersen, Shawn Smith Elected to NDA Hall of Fame
The AMOA-National Dart Association (NDA) is proud to announce the pair of individuals who will be inducted into the association’s Hall of Fame this summer.
NDA Past Presidents Marcia Petersen of Vend Alaska (2012) and Shawn Smith of J & J Ventures (2017) will become the 31st and 32nd members of this prestigious group when they are officially recognized for their achievements at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony conducted during the President’s Reception at this year’s Team Dart on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
Since its inception in 2006, NDA’s Hall of Fame Committee has voted in two persons each year.
Marcia Petersen has been a fixture at NDA events for nearly three decades, attending many of the organization’s educational programs and also volunteering to work at the annual Team Dart tournament. Like other NDA HOF members, Marcia’s “body of work” attracted the attention of NDA’s leadership and after being recruited to join its ranks, she was elected by the membership and started her tenure on the board in 2008.
“I always learned something when I attended an NDA program and my company was supportive of my involvement, which was great,” Marcia said.
A resident of Alaska for 40 years, she was the first person to serve as NDA President from outside the continental United States, when she was elected to the position in 2012.
Shawn Smith has been active in the coin-op business for nearly 21 years. He grew up “pre-video games” in Henderson, KY, and as such, engaged in outdoor neighborhood activities, such as backyard wiffleball, baseball, building snow forts in winter and off-roading.
“I started playing darts when I was 21-22 years old and a few years later, when I was off work due to a vehicle accident, the dart coordinator at the bar I played in came in one day and I jokingly asked him about a job.” Shawn said.
That led to his start—as a service tech—for Kentuckiana, now part of J & J Ventures, based in Evansville, IN. He moved there from Henderson—just across the bridge at the state line—soon after and has lived and worked there ever since.
