LaGrange County Trails
We are happy to report that LaGrange County has received a $1.5M Major Moves grant for the construction of the Hawpatch Trail project. This trail will run from Millersburg to Wolcottville, just south of Witmer Lake. This trail will provide a great benefit to lake residents and outdoor enthusiasts, and will positively influence property values for everyone near the trail, which is why the Witmer Lake Association supported the Hawpatch application.

You can find out more information about the Hawpatch trail here.
Lake Level and Test Results
During the Falls of 2019 and 2020, Witmer Lake partnered with the Five Lakes Association to perform cleanup of the Elkhart River. The associations hired Dave Lambright, who spent 30 hours cutting and removing trees that had fallen during the fall wind storm. This work increased flow in the North Branch of the Elkhart River between Mesick Dam and County Line Road, and has led to the normal water levels we see today. Our association will continue to partner with the other lakes, and the Five Lakes Association, to monitor lake levels.

LaGrange County Lakes Council performs routine testing of Witmer Lake. Testing results can be found here.
Free Fishing Days

As you prepare to welcome family and friends, remember that Indiana Department of Natural Resources provides Free Fishing days throughout the summer. Your guests can take advantage of fishing on Witmer Lake during these days without a fishing license.

Free Fishing days in 2021 are: May 2, June 5-6, and Sept. 25, 2021. More information can be found here.
At only $25 annually, Witmer Lake Association has some of the lowest membership dues of any lake association.

Thank you to all of you who paid dues in 2020. We had over 150 property owners who understand the value of supporting water quality testing, maintaining the Witmer Lake web site, guaranteeing we are represented in local political activities and controlling the goose population, just to name a few.
