2021 Teaching Excellence Award Recipients
We had an exceptional response from students for this year’s call for nominations for the Teaching Excellence Awards. Students wrote of faculty who

  • Transformed their learning
  • Created a sense of learning community in their class
  • Used interactive teaching methods that valued student perspectives and diverse ways of knowing and being
  • Supported remote learning

This year we had a record number of nominations: 508 nominations of 218 faculty representing 39% of all teaching faculty who were nominated for the Teaching Excellence Awards. We are incredibly fortunate to have so many inspiring and dedicated instructors at Capilano and we celebrate all instructors who are teaching through this pandemic!

This year's award recipients are:
Justin Wilson
Jane Ince
Allen Stevens
Danielle Wills
Sarah Yercich
Psychology
School of Communication

2021 Award for Excellence in Open Education
This year's inaugural award for Excellence in Open Education goes to

Doug Awards-Tomalin (Psychology)

Doug is a champion for Open Education at Capilano. For the past year, he has been an Open Education Faculty Associate working on our BCcampus Open Education Sustainability grant, examining renewable assignments and opportunities for growth in open educational resources. He has served as an open textbook reviewer with BCcampus and is currently working on adapting a textbook that will be accessible and free to students. Doug is part of the successful Psychology initiative led by Dr. Sally Walters and Dr. Hammond Tarry for the department-wide adoption of an Open textbook for all sections of PSYC 100 and PSYC 101 resulting in annual savings to students of over $80,000.

Congratulations to Doug and all members of the Psychology department on these significant achievements!
