I am so EXCITED! This is great and exciting news. The Foundation has given us funds to be used to help our Veterans. And we are going to "utilize" it to help our Veterans. There are many Veterans that need our support and acts of kindness.

I need all of you to be looking for the needs in your area and apply for these funds.

Those of you that are VAVS reps/deps at your VAVS meeting it has probably been discussed already as to some needs for the hospitals and clinics so this is a good start for you.

IF you don’t have a VAVS rep/dep in your dept. or unit no problem you can also utilize. Start by calling Voluntary Services at your local hospital or cboc (community based outreach clinic) make an appointment to go talk to him/her or ask them to send you a needs list. Also have them check with the Social Workers at the facility. Or Veterans Hud Vash coordinator. Check with the Oncology department.

Some examples of things they might need/want: If there is a Veterans Food Pantry, non perishable foods. If they have a Female Veterans clinic, new baby items for expecting Veterans. Social workers requests: full size personal care items, household cleaning supplies, bed bug covers for mattresses, new pillows, blankets, new clothing items. For Veterans recreation and rehab: group outing, movie passes, activities like model kits etc.
Bus passes so low income Veterans can get to their VA appointments. Alzheimer's unit, stuffed animals, fidget blanket, baby dolls. Just ask, I’m sure they will give you a lot of good idea’s.

If you have State Veteran Homes in your area, contact the administrator and ask him/her for a needs list for the Veterans in that home.

Same examples might be: activity books such as word-search, number search, crossword, sudoku. Small crafts (leather tool kits, model airplanes and cars. Domino's, checker sets, other small board games.

Today, I contacted one of the State Veterans Homes in my area and here are some things they suggested to me. They can use full size personal care items: pre-shave/after shave, body wash for men, scented body spray and body wash for women, denture tables and denture cream etc.
Women’s pajama pants/sets. L. XL, XXL, gripper socks, clothing protectors, new electric razors, triple head razors are needed for those members without funds.

Hope this helps. Questions please contact me! ~ Linda Varejcka
