Meet ComEd Manager of Customer Experience and Advocacy, Linda Rhodes! |
|
Linda Rhodes is a Manager of Customer Experience and Advocacy at ComEd, a unit of Chicago-based Exelon Corporation. ComEd delivers electricity to approximately 3.8 million residential and business customers across northern Illinois, including the City of Chicago, or 70 percent of the state’s population. 💡 Linda delivers outcomes aligned with lessening the burden of energy affordability on low-income and small business customers and with ensuring escalated customer inquiries are resolved respectfully.
During Linda’s experience on the Customer Solutions Strategy and Experience team, she drove the strategy ensuring customers have a premiere green power journey (solar, electric
vehicles) and supported a premiere customer experience with customer energy efficiency journeys. ⚡ As a member of ComEd’s Strategic Initiatives group, Linda influenced federal and local regulations expanding commercial use of drones, co-led the creation of a mobile app improving how pole replacements are tracked and led ComEd being the first electric utility in the nation to receive FAA operational approval to use drones. Drones are used to capture aerial images of ComEd system condition, such as in hard-to-access areas, for increased employee and public safety and organizational efficiency. 🏞️ Prior to joining ComEd, Linda served the environmental, health, safety, engineering and construction professions in various industries including manufacturing, food processing and public transportation.
In order to do the work and attain a similar position as Linda, a person would have to first obtain a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business, Engineering, or Renewable Energy, as well as gain a ton of experience in the field. There are a lot of things that Linda loves about her job, including being able to help her employees realize their potential to excel at work and grow as people. The most valuable thing to Linda is that her job offers her is the chance to explore different opportunities!

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy (EERE) 10-week summer internship programs provide opportunities for students and recent graduates to intern at DOE national laboratories and work on projects with other researchers . During these internships, students will get hands-on experience with real world research in many different disciplines, including positions in Energy Storage or Robotics! ⚙️

15 year-old scientist, inventor, and TIME's Kid of the Year, Gitanjali Rao.
|

Gitanjali Rao is a sophomore at STEM Highlands Ranch, but at age 15, she’s already making tangible progress to remedy some real world problems. 🌎 Gitanjali has been selected from a field of more than 5,000 nominees as TIME’s first ever Kid of the Year because of her astonishing work using technology to tackle issues ranging from contaminated drinking water to opioid addiction and cyberbullying. She also has a mission to create a global community of young innovators to solve problems all over the world. Gitanjali is motivated by the mantra: “Observe, brainstorm, research, build and communicate" and she wants to tell other young people: don’t try to fix every problem, just focus on one that excites you. “If I can do it,” she said, “anybody can do it.” Get inspired by Gitanjali by reading more about her projects here!

Spend 12 days walking on glaciers, sea kayaking in icy fjords, scrambling on rocks, or paddling down a boreal forest river with like-minded teens and instructors! 🛶🌲 Inspiring Girls Expeditions empowers young women to lead and succeed through science, art, and wilderness exploration. Each summer, they lead tuition-free multi-day expeditions for high school girls that interweave science, art, and backcountry travel. These expeditions are led by professional women scientists, artists, and wilderness guides. 16- and 17-year-old girls are invited to apply for the tuition-free wilderness science expeditions in Alaska, Washington, Colorado, Canada, Switzerland, and Austria. Exelon STEM Leadership Academy Alumna Chelsea Adinuba recently wrote and published her first book, “How To Be a Young Boss” at 16 years old! Her book features a step-by-step guide to growing financially, spiritually, and mentally by covering topics like relationships, investing, faith, entrepreneurship, networking, college application tops, and more.

Exelon Foundation STEM Leadership Academy Applications are OPEN! |

We are excited to announce that applications for the summer 2021 Exelon Foundation STEM Leadership Academy are now open! 🙌
The Exelon STEM Leadership Academy is a free, week-long, residential* program for 10th and 11th grade girls interested in STEM to learn from women working in STEM and other leaders; 👩🔬 explore sustainability, energy efficiency, renewable energy, and climate change; 🌎 and connect with like-minded peers. 💡 The Academy concludes with an energy challenge and a chance to win great prizes! Each participant will also receive an iPad to use for Academy activities and to take home at the end of the week. Past Academy attendees, please share with friends!
Student Staff applications were emailed to Academy alumni. If you did not receive the application and would like to apply, please email rlamb@need.org.
*We are closely monitoring the Covid-19 public health situation. The 2021 Academy is being planned as an in person, on campus event but may be converted to a virtual event based on local health recommendations and requirements.
