TOP THREE AUTUMN
IRRIGATION TIPS
TIP 1: TAKE THE PLUNGE AND INVEST IN HIGH-EFFICIENCY OUTDOOR IRRIGATION
Outdated sprinklers and irrigation controllers may be the culprits of outdoor water waste. Convert to high-efficiency irrigation equipment and save up to 131 gallons/day.

TIP 2: MAXIMIZE MULCHING
Mulch, such as bark chips or wood shavings, help keep moisture in your plants and trees and lower temperatures around the plant roots.

TIP 3: DITCH YOUR WATER-THIRSTY LAWN FOR A STYLISH, SUSTAINABLE LANDSCAPE
Replacing your lawn in the fall with beautiful, sustainable landscaping will lend to bright blooms in the spring. Time spent outdoors updating your landscape this fall will help you effortlessly save water outdoors during the drought—where half of household water waste occurs. These savings will help you voluntarily reduce your water use by 20% to reach SCV Water’s current drought requirement.

4-1-1- ON THE STATE’S NON-FUNCTIONAL TURF BAN
In June 2022, the drought prompted the State Water Resources Control Board to issue a statewide ban on watering non-functional turf with potable water. Non-functional Turf (NFT) is mowed grass that is ornamental and not otherwise used for human recreation purposes.
This ban applies to SCV Water’s Commercial, Industrial and Institutional (CII) customers, including Homeowners Associations and Common Interest Developments. It does not apply to residential properties, school fields, sports fields and areas regularly used for civic and community events.

There are exemptions for areas needed to water trees, shrubs, perennials and native/drought-tolerant grasses.

Learn more about the NFT resources and related rebates available to our CII customers and landscape contractors. Learn more.
