UPPER SCHOOL STUDENTS + PARENTS

COVID-19 Information: Frederica Academy’s Administration and COVID Task Force will closely monitor national, state, and local news to determine the most appropriate protocols to adhere to, as needed. Students and parents will be notified by the Head of School should new school-wide policies be put into place.
Knights in Extended Day (KiX) Information
The Frederica Academy KiX program (Knights in Extended Day), is available for FA students in Pre-K through Sixth Grade. Anyone who may want to use the extended day services during the 2022-2023 school year should complete a KiX formAll Pre-Kindergarten through 6th grade families should complete and return a KiX Registration form in the event unanticipated family circumstances necessitate a student attend KiX on short notice.

KiX is located in The Knights Castle (to access, turn immediately to the right upon entering campus before you go through the FA Main Gate). There are age appropriate activities taking place in different rooms. Older students are encouraged to work on homework during the time they are at KiX.

The program begins at 2:00 p.m. and ends at 6:00 p.m. Students enter the program at the conclusion of their regular school day. When Lower School After School Programs commence later this fall, students may opt to join KiX after daily programming in our seasonal After School Programs.

Attendance at KiX is billed on an hourly basis. “Frequent Flyers” receive a reduced rate based on how many hours a child is in attendance at KiX. For multiple siblings, we offer a 10% discount for the oldest sibling. All of this information is detailed on the KiX Registration Form. Please click HERE to access the KiX Registration Form and to learn more about the KiX Program.

Click HERE to email Heather Day, KiX Program Director, for more information.

KiX always welcomes “hand-me-downs” to use for our after school play. Legos, balls, cars, dolls and current chapter books are especially welcome.

5th Grade Participation in Athletics
Due to safety concerns, facility limitations, and certain league policies, 5th grade students may only participate in Cheer, Cross Country, and Track. FA participates in several local cross country and track meets that do not allow 5th graders to participate due to grade-level restrictions.

In order to provide 5th graders with an on-campus athletic experience, the 5th grade Physical Education course utilizes a Sports Exploration curriculum. Students will spend time in units that are based on the sports that FA offers beginning in the 6th grade. Intramural games will be embedded in each unit so that the students have opportunities for both skill development and competition. The Athletic staff will also offer occasional clinics in an effort to continue introducing FA athletic offerings to our younger Middle School students.

There may be rare occasions when FA has low participation numbers from students in grades 6-8 that the school administration allows 5th graders to participate. If this decision is made, the school will communicate the opportunity to all 5th grade parents.
Knights Table Food Service
Welcome to the Knights Table! The Knights Table crew provides lunch and morning break service at Frederica Academy each full day that school is in session. The Knights Table is located in Hamilton Hall, and there are tables for dining in Hamilton Hall as well as outside.

The goal of the Knights Table is to balance good nutrition in our food offerings along with what the students want to eat! Please check the menu in the Sunday email each week or on the school website to see what is being offered for the main entrée. This year we will have a salad choice in the cooler. These will be featured on the menu as well. When the weather cools off, there will be a soup most days, and you can always find prepackaged items like yogurt, string cheese and prepared sandwiches available for purchase. Powerades, Body Armor, fruit juices, milk and water are also found in the cooler each day.

Monday is Pasta Day with a wide range of offerings there from lasagna to spaghetti Bolognese. The details will be on the menu each week. Mexican style food is offered on Tuesdays, and Fridays are always Pizza Day. The Knights Table showcases their culinary skills on the other days of the week.

Kindergarten through 12th grade will go through the lunch line each day to make their lunch purchases. Of course, students are welcome to bring their own lunch and eat with their class (microwaves are available). If you are sending your child with something to be heated, please be sure that they are trained in how to use a microwave and how to handle hot items.

New this year, we will have an "express" lane which will allow our students to pick up the entree of the day (with no adjustments) and items and drinks from the cooler. We will continue to have the service line that allows students to "customize" their lunch. We are hopeful that having two lines will allow students to move through the line more quickly.

Pre-K students eat in their classrooms. Again, students are welcome to bring their own lunch, OR you can order either a Bento Box or a “Big Kids” lunch each week. The order form is included here or is available on the website. These forms are due to your child's classroom teacher no later than Monday morning each week. Stay tuned to the Sunday, August 7, school e-newsletter for the August lunch menu.

Middle School and Upper School also have access most days to Morning Break, which is offered daily at 10:00 a.m. Offerings change daily and include hot breakfast items, like eggs, grits, breakfast casserole and breakfast biscuits. All of the cooler items, such as drinks and other lite bites, are also available. SCHEDULE NOTE: Morning Break will not be offered August 10-12.

Please be sure to provide allergy information for your child(ren) to Nurse Pope as the Knights Table staff works really hard to be aware of allergies and to ensure students are being safe. We also ask that you discuss what students are able to purchase in the lunchroom as it is difficult for lunchroom staff to turn children away or police what they are purchasing. If you do not wish for your child to charge things in the lunchroom, please stress that with them.

We are excited to serve the students this year and we welcome parent and student suggestions all year long. Please email us at [email protected] with any comments or questions.
