Economic Development Officer Update
Off-Road Vehicle (ORV) By-Law
Good News for North Kawartha residents and businesses!

After several long years of advocacy at the County level, we’re pleased to report that Off Road Vehicle (ORV) use on select County Roads is now legal in North Kawartha.
ORV’s must comply with the outlined conditions, regulations and prohibitions contained within ORV By-Law


 Key Information for municipal ratepayers to know regarding the ORV By-Law;

  • Prohibited periods of operation: Off-Road vehicles shall not travel on County roads between December 1st and March 31st annually.

  • Prohibited times of operation: Off-Road vehicles shall not travel on County roads between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m.

  • Permitted roads: A list of permitted County roads that are designated for the use of ORVs are scheduled as such in the Schedule “A” (Click here for Schedule “A”)

North Kawartha Holiday Fundraisers
"CHUCK IT IN THE BUCKET"
Holiday Food Drive

The North Kawartha Roads Department is looking for your support through donation in support of the annual “Chuck it in the Bucket” Holiday Food Drive to help support the North Kawartha Food Bank.

The front-end loader will be stationed at 2 locations over 2 different nights from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

On Wednesday December 07, 2022, the food drive front-end loader will be stationed within Woodview at Wilson Park
(66 Northey's Bay Rd, Woodview ON K0L3E0).

On Thursday December 08, 2022, the food drive front-end loader will be stationed within the parking lot beside Hunters General Store, Apsley, across from the Royal Canadian Legion.



Donations of non-perishable food goods can be placed within the loader bucket; anything you can give would be gratefully appreciated.

Gift cards, cash and cheques payable to the "North Kawartha Food Bank" may be deposited into the wrapped donation box. Tax receipts can be issued by the "North Kawartha Food Bank" for donations of $20.00 or more.


The "North Kawartha Food Banks" greatest need continues to be cereal, juice, and jam. Canned soup, chili and stew is always a crowd favorite

Let’s see if we can fill that bucket North Kawartha!

Annual Holiday Toy Drive

Toy donations are needed for children from 0 to 16 years of age. All Toys will be distributed to in-need children within the Municipality of North Kawartha.

Donations are gratefully accepted from November 01 to December 16, 2022

Township of North Kawartha Finance Department
Annual Taxation
The 2022 Final Tax Bills for all properties were mailed out at the end of June and included
two (2) installments with due dates of
Wednesday July 27, 2022 and Tuesday September 27, 2022.

If you have not received a copy of your bill, please contact the Finance Department through
E-mail or by phone at 705-656-4445 extension 905.

Sign up now to receive electronic tax bills through email beginning in 2023
by filling out our E-mail Consent Form.

Never worry about remembering to pay your tax bill on time again by signing up for one of our three different pre-authorized payment plans!

You can have your tax payments withdrawn automatically on:
  • The 10th of the month from January to October
  • The 15th of the month from January to October, or
  • The four installment due dates in March, May, July and September.

It’s not too late! Pick the plan that works best for you and
sign up for pre-authorized payments at any time during the year.
How to pay your taxes through online banking:
  • In your online banking website or app, select the option to “pay a bill.”
  • Enter the Township as the payee by searching for "North Kawartha Township – Tax.”
  • Enter the first 15 digits of your roll number as the account number with no spaces or dashes.
  • When the Township receives your payment, it is automatically applied to the tax roll account that was entered when the payment was set up. If you have more than one roll number, make sure to set up a payment account for each property.
  • When paying through online banking it can take two to seven business days for the Township to receive your payment.

The Township of North Kawartha is pleased to be home to the North Kawartha Nights Junior C Hockey Franchise.

The Knights' home games are played predominately on Saturday nights at the NKCC.


Public skating is offered till March 2023
from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on
Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

$2.00 per skater / $5.00 per family

Loonie Skate

On Wednesday's from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Shinny and Public Skating is offered.

Figure skating ticket ice is offered from
7:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. on
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The North Kawartha Fitness Centre is open Monday to Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday to Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Winter Parking and Road Maintenance
Winter Roads Reminders

  • Do not deposit snow onto any roadway
  • No parking within town from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. from October 15, 2022 to March 15, 2023.
  • No Parking on any Township roadway
  • Township Roads department does not maintain private roads.

Please keep garbage and Recyling blue boxes off roadways and entrances of driveways.

  • County Rd. 52 [Jake Lake Road, up to the stop sign]

The Ministry of Transportation is responsible for Highway 28 road maintenance.

NO ICE, IS SAFE ICE!
Ice Factors
Many factors affect ice thickness including.
  • Type of water
  • Water depth, and size of water body
  • Currents, tides, and other water movement
  • Chemicals, such as salt
  • Water level fluctuations
  • Heat absorbed by logs, rocks, and dock
  • Air temperature changing
  • Shock waves caused by vehicles

Ice Coloring
The colour of ice can be an indication of its strength.
  • Clear blue is strong ice
  • White opaque and/or snow ice is half as strong as blue ice.
(Opaque ice is formed by wet snow freezing on the ice.)
  • Grey ice is unsafe.
(The grayness indicates the presence of water)

Ice Thickness
Minimum ice thickness should be:
  • 15 cm for walking or skating alone
  • 20 cm for skating parties or games
  • 25 cm for snowmobiles.
Community Events Happening within
the North Kawartha's
Apsley Lions Club annual Christmas Parade & Children's Party
Saturday November 26, 2022 starting at 2:00 p.m.

The Christmas Parade will begin at the Apsley Central Public School and finish off at the NKCC
The Children's Christmas Party will follow the Parade at the NKCC
Santa Claus will have gifts for children 10 and under.
Hot drinks and goodies will be available for everyone to enjoy.
Apsley Lions Club annual Winter Carnival
Saturday January 28, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the NKCC.

Join the Apsley Lions Club for the annual Winter Carnival with clowns, face painters, zoo to you, mad science demonstrations and games for the kids.
The food booth will be offering Hamburgers, French Fries, and Hot dogs.
