Dia de Portugal Recognized Across the US
As many of you know, the Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities is celebrated annually on June 10th. The holiday commemorates the death of the famed Portuguese poet, Luís Vaz de Camões, Portugal's greatest poet. All across the world, including here in the United States, Portuguese communities celebrate the day with great fanfare. See below for some of this year's celebrations.

Message from Secretary of State Anthony J. Blinken
On behalf of the United States of America, I congratulate the people of Portugal on their celebration of this year’s National Day.
The United States cherishes our enduring relationship with Portugal which is based on deeply shared values. We celebrate the enriching cultural, educational and professional exchanges between our people. Our valued partnership encompasses critical collaboration on a range of issues including defense, mutual economic prosperity, and the challenges of climate change. As longtime NATO Allies, we work together to protect our shared vision of a free Europe.
The United States will always remember that Portugal was one of the first countries to recognize the independence of our Republic. Our relationship has been strong and unwavering ever since, and we are confident the friendship between our two nations will continue to flourish.

June designated Portuguese National Heritage Month in California
The resolution of the Portuguese Heritage Month was presented in the California State Senate by Senator Henry Stern, and co-sponsored by Assemblymembers Cecilia Aguiar-Curry and Rudy Salas, and passed in the State Senate unanimously.

As is customary, Governor Charlie Baker issued a proclamation declaring June as Portuguese-American Heritage Month in the Commonwealth in recognition of the significant contributions Portuguese-Americans have made to the state and the nation.
