Dear Students,
We hope you are enjoying a safe and productive summer break! The Study Abroad and World Scholars teams at the Center for Global Programs & Services (CGPS) are excited that the fall semester travel season is fast approaching!
As a participant in UD’s Fall 2022 travel study programs, you will be among a cohort of more than 140 students to represent the University abroad and benefit from the unique exchange of cultures and knowledge that comes with studying abroad.
During this exciting and challenging time, the CGPS team is working diligently to support a safe and healthy experience for you this fall. As we look forward to the coming semester, the University remains committed to providing you with safe and productive international education experiences that are critical to your university experience and learning. Based on the past year's experience and after a careful review of policies, I am pleased to share a set of guidelines that provide a more open and flexible study abroad program for you this fall. While travel study programs this fall continue to look a little different than they have in the past, new policy guidelines, articulated below, will help ensure your health and safety as the world continues to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic.
As your departure date approaches, there are a few last steps to help you fully prepare for your experience:
-
Sign this amended acknowledgment or risk before midnight on Thursday, August 18, 2022. This helps ensure that you understand the risks associated with travel as the world continues to deal with the impact of COVID-19.
-
Join us for a pre-departure town hall on Thursday, August 18 at 12 p.m. The town hall session will provide you with an overview of UD study abroad policies and guidelines, as well as important health and safety information before you travel. The session will be recorded and shared with all students after the event.
- Read and share the policies below with your family and emergency contacts.
Fall 2022 study abroad guidelines for students:
-
All study abroad students (regardless of in-person or online class status) are required to be fully vaccinated and receive a booster and upload their documentation to the UD Health Portal.
- Students on semester programs are authorized by UD to travel to a single country of activity and are restricted from traveling to other countries for the duration of their UD study abroad program except for:
- Program-sponsored travel to fulfill an academic requirement
-
Or travel between EU member states that do not have COVID-19 entry requirements as posted on Reopen Europa. In this case, the UD student must register their travel plans with 1) the on-site program coordinator and 2) studyabroad@udel.edu
- Unauthorized international travel will result in a UD Student Conduct referral for non-compliance with UD Policy. UD reserves the right to restrict additional travel at any time.
- Students will be required to review and sign an amended acknowledgment of risk that clearly articulates travel risks and mitigation measures abroad.
- Students will be expected to submit an international phone number and register their information with CGPS crisis management systems such as GeoBlue and Crisis24. Failure to comply with UD, host institution, or local country regulations will result in a referral for failure to comply with UD’s Student Conduct policy.
The CGPS team is committed to supporting you throughout your study abroad experience, and you can always reach out to us with questions or concerns. Your program orientation meetings have provided you with site-specific information including crisis management plans, housing details, options for academic travel, and an overview of local health and safety rules and regulations. Pre-departure orientation materials and the upcoming town hall will ensure that you understand your international health insurance and emergency coverage provided by GeoBlue and Crisis24.
Please monitor your UD email for additional communications from your program coordinator and hosts abroad. Should you have any questions or concerns, we invite you to visit www.udel.edu/global/study-abroad/safety and to contact us at studyabroad@udel.edu.
Sincerely,
Matt Drexler
