HARWICH HELPING HARWICH

2022 In Review

Since its initial launch in May of 2020, The Harwich Fund continues to make great strides, putting its motto of “Harwich Helping Harwich” into action. With your support, in just over 30 months, we have exceeded our grantmaking and development goals—and this is just the beginning!

Grantmaking Exceeds $36,000

To date, we have made 18 grants totaling $36,085 to 12 different nonprofit organizations serving the unmet needs of the Harwich community. Grant History 2020-2022

In 2022, we made 9 grants totaling $17,750. However, requests for grants continues to exceed our current capacity to deliver resources.

Next Steps:

We will continue to network with leaders of the nonprofit sector serving Harwich to identify unmet needs and expand our grantmaking focus beyond health and human services for youth, families, and seniors to include historic, cultural, environmental, and other areas of community life.

Endowment Growth Drives Fund Sustainability

Since our launch in May 2020, The Harwich Fund has received donations from over 90 Harwich residents, with 34 giving in multiple years and a third of our donors having gifted or pledged at or above "The Harwich Fund Community Philanthropist" level of $5,000. Gifts of any level, however, are most welcome and appreciated. We are closing in on our initial goal to raise $250,000 during our first three years of existence so as to ensure the Fund's viability. Given the continued need we are seeing through our grant making program and community outreach efforts, our longer term target is to drive sufficient scale for self-sustainability.

Next Steps

We will continue to build awareness of and support for The Harwich Fund through group meetings, joint-fundraising, and targeted mailings with potential donors throughout the Harwich community.  The Harwich Fund is a permanent endowment focused on the needs of the Harwich community. We would like to thank all of our supporters for their continued generosity and invite those who want to learn more about The Harwich Fund to reach out to our Advisory Committee. Thank You.

Grantee Spotlight: The Homeless Prevention Council

The Homeless Prevention Council of Cape Cod (HPC) provides personalized case management solutions to promote stability for residents of the Lower and Outer Cape. The Harwich Community is the largest area HPC serves. In 2021, the organization supported about 320 individuals from Harwich; the number increased to 365 individuals in 2022.

From 2021-2022, The Harwich Fund awarded HPC two grants totaling $2,250 for case management for Harwich residents. The program provides personalized and long-term support to Harwich individuals and families, empowering them to attain financial stability to stay in their homes or to find stable and affordable housing.

The Council provides assistance with housing needs, fuel and utility costs, employment and education resources, and other special programs and supportive services. It is a Certified SNAP partner, enabling them to initiate SNAP eligibility as well as adjust and maintain existing accounts. HPC also partners with other agencies to increase support for clients and provides advocacy and education to the community to prevent and reduce homelessness.

Ultimately, HPC strives to provide services and special programs to help local residents stabilize their housing and finances. “Change happens when we come together to support those most vulnerable in our community,” says Hadley Luddy, the organization's CEO.
