Join us as the 2022 MOJA Arts Festival Continues Through October 9

Get involved during the MOJA Arts Festival as the Charleston County Public Library (CCPL) hosts two special book club discussions as part of a partnership. The discussions will be centered around “Homegoing” by Yaa Gyasi, which is the featured title for MOJA’s NEA Big Read program, supported by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). The NEA Big Read continues with community programs and special events through March 2023.

4th Graders Readout

This week over 1,000 local Charleston County School District students will participate in the MOJA Arts Festival Readout. A MOJA Tradition, this outreach program invites 4th grade students from pre-selected Charleston County Schools to participate in a special in-school reading program in which invited students receive a free copy of the featured book. This year's selection is "A Day for Rememberin': Inspired by the True Events of the First Memorial Day" by Leah Henderson.

MOJA Finale

Close out the Festival in style! Join us on Sunday, October 9th for a day-long celebration of Lowcountry culture and Charleston history, culminating in a knock-out mainstage performance! Get started with Brunch in the Park with the Charleston Parks Conservancy from 11:00am-2:00pm. The day will continue with more vendors and more family fun! You’ve heard them coined “Charleston’s Queen of Soul” and “Charleston’s Tina!” Black Diamond & LaFaye will join forces as The ZD Experience Presents “Simply the Best” a tribute to Tina Turner & “Queen of Soul” a tribute to Aretha Franklin. Everyone in your family will enjoy this free-to-attend celebration of all that the MOJA Arts Festival has to offer.

ABOUT MOJA

The MOJA Arts Festival is a multi-disciplinary festival produced annually and directed by the City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the MOJA Planning Committee, an all-volunteer community arts and cultural group. Additional assistance and guidance is provided by the less formal networks of the MOJA Advisory Board, a group of civic leaders who assist with fundraising and advocacy, and the Friends of MOJA patron circle, representing individual and corporate donors.
