President's Message
Dear Friends of SEF,
Right now our annual fund campaign continues and we still need you as SEF is still raising funds that will help to fund programming in the 2022/23 school year! We would like everyone to participate by making a voluntary, tax-deductible donation to SEF!! Please click here to make a tax-deductible gift today! With much gratitude, we thank you in advance for your consideration of support.
I feel so fortunate to have such an outstanding group of men and women who dedicate their time and resources to run SEF. Combined with a passion to enrich the education our students receive, we have professionals who donate their expert skills in accounting, finance, marketing, project management, education---just to name a few---to facilitate a well functioning board and to ensure we maximize our limited resources. From the bottom of my heart thank you for all you do to make an impact on our SGUSD students.
As with any board, we have term limits and a few of our board members will be rotating off. We are looking for new board members and hope you may have an interest in joining our board or becoming a Friend of SEF. Members have an opportunity to serve as Committee Chairs or members at large who support the chair activities. New board members would join the Board on July 1, 2022 and serve for two years. Please contact Adela Angiuli our Executive Director, if you are interested in making a difference to SGUSD at adela.angiuli@sef4schools.org or contact the SEF office at 626-451-5465.
Thanks to caring friends like you, since 1986, the Foundation has been proudly serving thousands of students annually. The SEF Board of Directors strives to increase our impact and fulfill our mission "to partnering with parents and the community to give San Gabriel Unified School District students unique learning experiences inside and outside the classroom."
As we work to expand our visibility and promote community understanding and value of the foundation, we want to share an update surrounding our efforts to get books into the hands of students and to add to our school site libraries. In the 2021/2022 academic year alone we have already distributed thousands of pieces of literature with a total value of over $49,000....YES we said over $49,000!!
Additionally, this year once again we provided a grant award to Gabrielino High School in support of the after school library hours providing access for all students. This year's award in the amount of $4,000 was possible because of the support we received from our donors.
Please visit our website at seffor8schools.org if you have yet to make your donation towards this year's campaign. All donations large and small do matter because together will continue to move forward because together we will thrive and together we can all help continue to create a year of excellence in this second half of the year that meets the needs of all of the students we serve....thank you!
With best wishes always,
Alison DeVriendt
SEF President 2021-2022

SEF Delivers $675 of Literature to JMS Library!
|
Thanks to the generous support of the Kids Need to Read Foundation, SEF recently stopped by Jefferson Middle School to deliver approximately $500 worth of books donated in direct support of the school site library, specifically the graphic novel section. Adding to the energy and excitement of today’s book delivery, SEF donated an additional $175 worth of literature and we couldn’t be smiling more!!
SEF strives to encourage and support literacy in our community, and understands the positive impact a donation of books can make with students. We are extremely grateful for the backing of our efforts we receive from our friends of SEF.
Thank YOU Kids Need to Read, thank YOU donors and thank YOU to the incredible team at Jefferson Middle School…YOU are all what makes us strong!!

Why SEF Matters - Understanding Impact in the Community ~ The One Thing!

1. Why do you support SEF?
I support SEF as the Foundation has made art education and exposure a high priority. While I believe most people understand that the arts are important in a well rounded education, budgets and time committed for the arts has diminished over the years in K-12 education. Recent research on the impact of the arts on academic and social development have found that there is strong evidence that arts educational experiences can produce significant positive impacts on academic and social development. Families that have resources are able to augment their child's exposure to the arts outside of the school curriculum in ways that not all families are able to participate. Furthermore, there are multiple career paths in the arts that can become reality with access to the arts. SEF's investments in breaking down barriers in access to the arts will go far in helping to close achievement gaps and creating career paths.
2. In your opinion, what is the ONE thing that SEF does that enriches students' lives?
I believe that one thing that SEF does is to provide access - access to the arts, access to community engagement, access to summer enrichment programs through scholarships, access to program development through teacher grants, access to music through program funding, access to fun through community events - the list goes on.
