2022 - Take a Walk on Your Trail
Early morning, day after Christmas. Parks and Recreation arrives at the Health and Heritage Trail...
...and sets the history signs!
All six historic signs, recounting part of the story of Jefferson Park, were installed. Take a walk between Santa Rita and Park Avenue and see the new "history walk". The signs were proofed by a UA professor/neighbor and also passed the scrutiny of the AZ State Museum. Thanks to both. The stands were completed by a neighbor and the history was lifted from the files of oral histories given to the Friends of Jefferson Park, Inc. This was a neighborhood effort in partnership with the City!

UA Safety Study for Mountain Avenue
Review the study and the recommendations for Mountain Ave, including the intersection at Grant Road: http://www.grantroadcoalition.com/ua-mountain-study-2022.html. Bikes and pedestrian safety have long been a concern of the residents of Jefferson Park. JPNA has forwarded these suggestions for consideration to the Department of Transportation and Mobility, and PSOMAS.

Many thanks TDOT and TPD Homeless Unit
THANK YOU TDOT for the partial clean up of the Campbell Access Road. Neighborhood volunteers pruned the northeast parklet just before Christmas and were making slow progress on the access road.
THANK YOU HOMELESS OUTREACH TEAM: Sgt. Jack Julsing and SCO Jose Rivas for redirecting a homeless camp about to be set up in the northeast parklet.
THANK YOU BANNER: The southeast parklet and south into the basin was becoming a homeless camp and when alerted, Banner moved the folks along.

Two big events are in the planning stages. Here's a chance to volunteer to keep Jefferson Park a great place to live. Join the volunteer list!
MAKE SHADE
MARCH 26 - Saturday
Tucson Clean and Beautiful, Trees for Tucson, Parks and Recreation and the volunteers from Jefferson Park will plant 24 new trees on the east end of the Linear Park Trail. Due to budget constraints, this section was shorted during the original planting. We just need the muscle to plant the new trees.
Chairperson: Joan Daniels - jdchama@msn.com. Contact her to be added to the volunteer list.
SUPPORT JPNA
APRIL 22,23,24 - Fri, Sat, Sunday
The 3rd Annual Jefferson Park Plant Sale will take place over the Earth Day weekend. What a great way to celebrate! Neighbors have been nurturing plants and painting pots. Come and shop for great plants and garden items, early Mother's Day gifts. Proceeds from the sale help with projects for the neighborhood.

Chairperson is Laurel Heather trdswmn@cox.net. Contact her if are willing to help with the sale.
Update - TEP Project - 138kV Poles
TEP in Negotiations with City

For the past few months, TEP has been in negotiations with the City of Tucson regarding the Kino to DeMoss-Petrie Transmission Line Project. They will soon be presenting their ideas for feedback to a public audience. Stay tuned for dates and process. We will keep you updated.

In Steve Kozachik's latest newsletter, he summarized the discussion between TEP and the City to date. If you have not read it, please see: https://content.govdelivery.com/accounts/AZTUCSON/bulletins/304d6b4
For the time being, TEP has withdrawn its application for the CEC, Certificate for Environmental Compatibility, with the ACC. Still, TEP could refile it if negotiations with the City are not successful. If TEP refiles, July 25 is the tentatively scheduled as the new start date with the ACC. Again, we will keep you posted. Thanks for your continuing interest and support.

For the history of the project and latest updates on the efforts to keep 138kV poles out of historic and residential neighborhoods, and off the Gateway routes in Tucson, see http://www.jeffersonpark.info/tep-138-kv-poles.html
Parklet at Edison and Campbell Access Road
Every 3rd Saturday of the month, 8:00 am, at the end of Edison at Campbell Avenue, we clean the parklet. Reminders are put out on Google groups. Garbage bags and tools supplied. If you do pick up trash during the week, or just prefer to pick it up at a time of your choosing, please contact Joanne Osuna at cricket16@cox.net and your time will count. We report our hours to Tucson Clean and Beautiful as part of the Adopt-a-Park Program.

New Year Cleaning?
Never Flush
Never Flush These Items

Resolve in 2022 to never flush these items down the toilet: grease, expired or unwanted medicines, paper towels, diapers, feminine hygiene products, rags, dental floss, cotton swabs, disposable wipes, cleaning supplies, pesticides, automotive fluids, used face masks.

These items can cause problems with plumbing and the sewer system, and harm the environment. For more information, please visit
Wildcat Dumping - chairs, couches, furniture etc.
"Illegal dumping" includes leaving items at the curb, and it is a code violation. Furniture, trash, and yard waste left at the curb can be reported to Code Enforcement. Of course, you might want to try first, to politely ask the person to dispose of it or arrange to have it picked up. However, if you need to report illegal dumping, you can do so by calling 791-5843 or online at http://www.tucsonaz.gov/csd/violation/

Contact Ward III regarding wildcat dumping. You must report the address. Pictures if possible. (520) 791-4711 or email: ward3@tucsonaz.gov

CITY SAFETY SURVEY
The City of Tucson is partnering with the American Friends Service Committee for the Re-imagining Community Safety Survey. This will help inform the Community Safety, Health and Wellness Program and tackle racial injustice and inequity for communities of color. The City will use its findings to drive progress toward a more equitable justice system by organizing affected communities in Tucson to generate their own evidence of what constitutes safety in their neighborhoods. This extensive community outreach and input are vital for the City of Tucson to better serve its residents. The survey will be accepting responses for the next six months. Follow the links below to take the survey in English or Spanish.
