January 2022
Klickitat County Residents,
Welcome to 2022! Everyone here at the Klickitat County Solid Waste Department is excited to get 2022 going. We have planned many activities, programs, and events. We will keep you posted as they become available.
Upcoming Programs
We are hosting a Christmas Tree Collection event in coordination with Republic Services, Dirt Hugger, WA Dept. of Ecology, Goldendale High School, and Columbia High School. We hope you take advantage of this opportunity to turn your Christmas tree into a nutrient rich compost instead of sending it to the Roosevelt Landfill.

Date: January 8th, 2022
Time: 10am-2pm

Locations-
Goldendale- Goldendale High School (pick-up requests available in the Goldendale area)

The 2022 Annual Newsletter is now available! Be sure to place this where you can refer to it as needed, such as close to your recycle bin at home.
Republic Services Updates
The 2022 Recycling Schedule is now available. Republic Services also offers a collection calendar on their webpage that allows you to enter your address and it will tell you when your next pick-up date is. Garbage and recycle needs to be at the curb no later than 7:00am on the day of your scheduled pick-up.
Winter Weather Reminder-
When we get winter weather, it is the responsibility of the resident and/or company to clear the area around, and the path to, the garbage and recycle containers. The trucks and the drivers must have clear access to the container in order to complete the collection. There may be times when Republic Services is unable to safely complete the collection. These trucks weigh in around 35,000 pounds and even with chains they can not access all areas when snow and ice has accumulated. When chained, the trucks are also limited to no more than 35 mph which significantly increases the route times. Please be patient. If you have any questions, concerns, or need assistance you can contact the Republic Services Goldendale office directly at (509) 773-4027 or the main headquarters at (509) 773-5825. Thank you!
Republic Services is in dire need of CDL drivers. They are hiring for multiple positions. Please go to www.republicservices.jobs/ for more information.
They are offering a $3,000 hiring bonus in Klickitat County! Become part of the team and receive great pay, great benefits, and help out your fellow residents with the very important task of waste removal.
Recycling Tips
The new recycling guidelines has added more acceptable plastics. You no longer need to look at the bottom of the item to check for a number on the plastics. However, there are still only specific items allowed. Currently we are accepting Bottles, Jugs, and Tubs within the plastics category. Lids are accepted if they are 3" or larger or they are screwed onto the item. Loose lids are a major hazard in the sorting machines. All other materials that were previously accepted are still accepted, such as cardboard, paper, paperboard, tin & aluminum. The most important thing next to recycling the correct items, is to ensure they are EMPTY, CLEAN, AND DRY!
Litter Clean-Up & Illegal Dumps
Grab your friends, co-workers, and/or neighbors and sign-up to participate in a community litter pick-up. You can check out the items for free from the Solid Waste Department. Pick-up must be conducted on public land. We will provide pick-up of the litter that is collected and dispose of it through our Dept. of Ecology Grant. Contact the Litter Supervisor to schedule your cleanup.
